somanymistakes
Have you, or anyone you know, ever been pressured into a relationship you weren't sure you wanted? Some examples of this happening in the USA: There are many religious groups that pressure their members to marry young, often to people they don't know very well. Some stories: Let me tell you what forced marriage in America looks like (Orthodox Jewish) (Mormon) While there is no longer as much societal stigma about having a child out of wedlock, and frantic marriages are much less common than they used to be, some people do feel compelled to marry someone just because of a pregnancy: https://www.whattoexpect.com/forums/april-2010-babies/topic/got-married-because-of-pregnancy-and-regretting-it.html https://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/human-nature/behavior/shotgun-marriages-are-the-rise-surprising-places.htm (though interestingly, this article suggests that people who get married because of a pregnancy are more likely to stay together!) In the US, children can be married by parental consent. The child's consent is not required. This is still true in 2018. https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/inspirational-stories/a40323/child-marriage/ https://www.cosmopolitan.com/lifestyle/a9941712/thousands-of-underage-girls-are-wed-each-year-in-the-united-states/ https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/200000-children-married-us-15-years-child-marriage-child-brides-new-jersey-chris-christie-a7830266.html The youngest wedded were three 10-year-old girls in Tennessee who married men aged 24, 25 and 31 in 2001. GorillaTheater
"The youngest wedded were three 10-year-old girls in Tennessee who married men aged 24, 25 and 31 in 2001." The answer to your question is "no", but I'm utterly appalled by this quote. It's little more than legalized pedophilia for christ's sake.
