bitteorca
Hi all, Not sure where to put this, but here goes... Putting it simply...I like myself in the mirror...don't think I'm Brad Pitt or anything, but would class myself as relatively attractive, and I also don't seem to struggle with girls...I'm not a player or anything but seem to get relatively attractive girls relatively frequently! As soon as I take a photo of myself, I hate 90% of them. Like it looks like a completely different person. And that person isn't attractive! I have googled this. Most people say its because a mirror is a mirror-image of yourself, a flip. But I wouldn't mind a flipped version of myself in the mirror, I don't think its about symmetry, I've worked that out at least! I think its mostly down to light?! When I look through my iphone, it looks nothing like what my eyes are seeing, the lighting is different...so will this be the problem? But then I think, well its still you, just in different light?! Same goes with my hair...I like my hair in the mirror, then I look at it in a photo and I hate it....I don't know what to think!
USMCHokie
I am also a believer in this phenomenon...which is why I don't like to have my picture taken...
PegNosePete
It's the same for spoken voice too, when I talk I sound normal, I like my voice. But hearing myself speak on a video or other recording, I sound weird.
loverofloveandstuff
It's the same for spoken voice too, when I talk I sound normal, I like my voice. But hearing myself speak on a video or other recording, I sound weird. I hate hearing my spoken voice! I got a new number recently and so I had to record a voicemail for my phone. I ended up doing it 10+ times because I wasn't satisfied with the way it sounded. My friend actually left me a message the other day and at the end she said "oh and by the way, your voicemail is way too chirpy." All that effort to waste. As for photos, I dislike them too which is ironic considering my work. When I had facebook there used to be a battle between my friends and I, they would tag me in photos, I would untag myself, tag, untag, it was war! Glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. january2010
The nature of the technology can distort the output image/voice. I'm not up to date with current theory, but from what I remember, there's a psychological concept regarding "me vs. not me" that may be relevant here.
