I agree...of course you'll have plenty of overlap as a lot of men will have similar tastes in women, but in the end, it's based on what each individual finds 'hot'...

I do think it's really subjective, because lots of guys think that Megan Fox is hot but I think she has fugly fake plastic surgery face and there are SO many prettier, hotter women than her. I think guys think she's hot just because other guys think she's hot, and guys think others might think they're gay if they don't say Megan Fox is hot.

Oh and on askmen.com that Christina Hendricks is stated as the hottest woman...OK, maybe if she lost 30 pounds, she's huge.

Fairly simple:

Pretty= Pretty

Hot= Pretty+ physical attraction

A pretty girl doesn't need to have a great body to be pretty. A hot girl usually does have a nice body..basically nice features all around, including face.

Jessica Alba- pretty.

Really? I'm all for toning and maintaining a healthy weight but I thought she looked OK and better than when I first saw her.

I haven't noticed, but her curves are amazing. She is also very pretty.

This combination earns her the hot factor...for being pretty with tons of sex appeal.

Hot = sexually attractive body. As the same time the face mustn't be ugly enough to turn me off sexually. Hot is usually not socially acceptible for a man to say directly to a woman.

Pretty = has a aestethicaly pleasing face. Makes me enjoy kissing and gazing deep into each others eyes. Since pretty doesn't deal with raw animalistic sexual urge, it's much more socially acceptable to say. Could also be a socially acceptible way of complimenting someone, even if they are thinking Hot.

What about sexy?

I have been called sexy and almost never pretty or hot.

I think that sexy is less hot version of "hot".

All SUBJECTIVE. Your BF/GF may be the one of the above to you but completely opposite to another person. Im one of those people who say beauty comes from the inside as much as out. Whats so good about being with a "hot" chick when she is dumb as a box of rocks or as shallow as a parking lot puddle.

Like I said, subjective. To me Jessica Alba is hot, Kim Kardashain can be hot (depending on what pictures I see of her) and Beyonce is pretty to me.

both are great compliments imo for a woman/girl. Means your highly attractive.

I think both are on par in the looks dept. but Megan has the raw sexual appeal thrown in while Natalie has a more 'reserved' swagger.

Pretty = Aesthetically pleasing, symmetrical features.

Hot = Aesthetically pleasing, symmetrical features plus a high level bang factor.

You can identify the 'Ravage me' in 'em straight away.

BTW, I have noted 'hot' in women who are otherwise objectively not pretty nor widely attractive. It's like an aura they have. No explanation for that. Conversely, there are others who *should* elicit that base-level sexual response but, blah, nothing. That description applied to the lady in my example for a long time, with lots of close contact and then, one day, or perhaps over a short period, it changed. I think there's a way women (and men, as well) can control the sexual perception of themselves to others, either consciously (purposely) or unconsciously. A chameleon-like transformation. Anyway, it's something I've observed.

So, (guys will probably be able to answer this better) what makes a girl pretty, and what makes a girl hot?

That's an interesting question. In a way, I don't differentiate between hot and pretty as far as overall attractiveness is concerned. There are woman who I would call hot, yet I am not attracted to them and there are pretty woman I am attracted to.

That said, there have been times (although very few) where I felt an instant, and very strong sexual attraction. Those times, I felt like Bugs Bunny looking at Lola Bunny. My jaw dropped to the ground, eyes popping out of their sockets, my heart thumping to the moon and back a few times, as my tongue lay on the cement drooling all over the pavement. I would definitely call those women very hot.

Do only pretty girls signify satisfying relationships as opposed to hot girls who can become (or already are) the standard for one night stands?

Not for me. But I have also never been interested in a one night stand, so I wouldn't rule out hot women as far as a relationship is concerned. There is no too hot for a relationship.

That said, I know a woman who is (IMO) very hot, and she has the problem that almost all the men she meets are looking for sex, rather than a relationship.

I would think that once you are in a relationship, the guy only sees his "hot" girlfriend. If a guy doesn't have the hots for his gf, then I think something is very wrong.

As you said, it really is subjective. I think they don't have to loose weight at all.

I think its all semantics and objectively depends on the person using the word. Meaning that a specific man subjectivly can find a specific girl hot

What I will say is that shadow might as well give up because only a man can tell you what is hot. A girl can see another girl and think hmm she is pretty...

but a man can look at a girl(heck even a fat girl if thats what he is into) and think to himself damn she is hot (aka sexy) and I was to F*ck her HARD.

I think that pretty is mostly about what comes naturally, whereas hot can totally be faked with the right hair, clothes, and makeup. Hot is more about the image that a woman projects rather than her natural good looks. There are a lot of girls at my school that appear "hot" from a distance, but when you get up close you realize their faces are just not pretty or attractive. So I don't think that hot is necessarily better because pretty can't be faked.

My boyfriend calls me both. He calls me pretty and/or beautiful on basically a daily basis, and I know he's referring to my natural looks. When he calls me hot, it's usually because I'm dressed up or wearing/doing something a little more overtly sexy. Then again....he calls me sexy on a regular basis too, so I'm not sure where that fits in with all this pretty/hot stuff!

Hot is attitude. Most attractive men and women have the ability to be hot.

I really think you misread her look, lol.

Without being too graphic, I watched this transformation recently. All it took for me was one deep look into my eyes with that expression women have when they want sex and, then, pretty went to hot and I couldn't stop staring at her ass the next day. Fortunately, her husband and her father were around, so it was easy to retain decorum. Someone I had known for 15 years, basically watched grow up as an adult, went from pretty to hot in a matter of a few minutes.

 

So, project how you 'feel'. Look upon the man in front of you like you wish to devour him. I've tried this with women and it does work. It does catch their attention. It's a hard (no pun intended) concept to explain.

 

I think a relationship is apt to be more successful when the two people are compatible. In my example, whether pretty or hot, the lady in question and I would likely NOT be compatible. It has nothing to do with how attractive she is. All it took was one marriage to teach me that. Being able to see beyond pretty and hot to compatibility is a new feature of my people-picker.
