Recently (Smile) -I was told by an LS poster that I had a huge nose.

A "Toucan-like" nose, he insisted.

It's true I don't have a perfect nose (a lot of other things having to do with me aren't so perfect, either) but I've never had a conversation come to focus, particularly, on the size, or irregularity of my nose.

And whether or not it interfered with anyone considering me "likeable" never came up, either.

It has never distracted anyone that I am aware of -and in looking around to compare other noses to mine, it appears I didn't wind up suffering too badly.

(Smile)

Actually, because of the angle my avatar photo was in, I agree that my nose *does* appear to be quite a honker, bigger than it really is.

I'm kind of proud of my nose -it reminds me of my dad's Cherokee nose- and it's never cost me a single friendship, or detracted from my overall appearance and personality in any way I can think of.

Surgery to make it fall in line with some celebrity-inspired idea of the perfect nose? Not me -I'm happy with what I was born with.

Another thought in passing, in regards to anyone obsessed with any unique feature of someone else, is that -if all we can manage to focus on are the features that distinguish people as individuals- I hope that, at least, some of them are *inward* ones.

I doubt you will "out" the vicious poster, but I've got a can of whoopass I wouldn't mind opening!

I have always loved your avatar and think the photo of you is very appealing and attractive. The angle probably does accentuate your nose, but your face is interesting (I mean that in a very positive way) and has character. I think you have an exotic look, not the cookie cutter look that we see every day on TV and in print. You often "(Smile)" and I see YOUR smile when I see those words used in that way, even if I had to scroll past the avatar to read your entire post. I think you beautiful, both outwardly and inwardly, Rio.

Original poster, I definitely think a larger than average nose can be attractive to men. Looking back at my history of men, I tend to be attracted to large noses myself.

Ah, yes. The Internet … highway of the great unwashed.

You must have posted something he didn't agree with, and because you are so respected and admired by many of us here (myself included :o ) … he suddenly felt threatened.

Don't you ever change a darn thing about yourself, Rio. You are stunningly beautiful … inside and out. As a matter of fact, I wanna be just like you when I grow up! :D

To the OP, I'm going to respond even though I'm female. Some people here might remember this about me, I've posted in the past that I'm attracted to small noses, I have no idea why and I don't have a small nose myself, maybe medium? Anyway, people give me such a hard time when I say that because apparently it's weird, strange, unusual to be attracted to noses. So I'm thinking that since I'm the odd one, most people must not really care about noses.

DDL & Enigma -you are, well- making me Smile.

Thank you both for your lovely compliments.

I don't know what else to say.

Thank you.

To the OP, yes. Although a big nose is particularly unattractive on a woman, even objectively according to the science of beauty (experts claim that a woman with a *small* nose, full lips, and big eyes signal high levels of estrogen), she can have other features that add more pros to the con. It depends on how many good features vs. bad features. In example, Uma Thurman has a relatively large nose but she's got the striking cheekbones, pretty eyes, full lips, and softer structure that outweigh it.

Personally, I've always thought Sarah Jessica Parker was quite the hottie, and if I were a woman into women, I'd be into her. She has a big(ger) nose. And she got Mr. Big!! (And Matthew Broderick)

But then you've also got Jennifer Grey, who apparently felt that her nose needed altering, though I thought she looked just fine with her birthright nose.

But hey - I'm a gal, so take it for what it's worth.

I think I have a lil bit of a bigger nose, but im fine with it!...its better than having a huge bump :p j/k

I agree with the Sarah Jessica Parker deal!

My best friend has a big nose - very much like SJP's...and both are gorgeous (my BFF even more so!). :)

I have a small one myself but everyone's noses are not the same.

I don't really think noses are that big of a deal. Some have big ones and it looks good, some don't. Just depends on how everything else looks but I'm sure big noses look just as good as small ones do.

Great topic ! When I was a teenager, I used to CRY,CRY,CRY in front of a mirror over my Italian nose LOL.

But I got so many other GREAT things from my heritage, a sexy bod, very full hair, big eyes and lips, young looking skin, that my "larger" nose seems a fair trade off.

In fact when I "smush" my nose into tiny angelina jolie proportions I look like a fish because my other features are lush, and the teeny tiny nose just doesn't fit !

I so wish I could go back and tell my 13 yr old self to stop being so damn critical, and if you OP, feel like your nose is larger than, say, a super models, Try and spend at least as much time paying attention and praising yourself for your good features as you do complaining to yourself about your nose/thighs/whatever !!!!!

I don't want to jack this thread, but I was just today, wondering about you and how you would reply to a thought of mine, not a thread or a post, just a thought . Good to see you back!

I'm glad to see this post. Ive always had a bit of a self conscious problem with feeling my nose was too big or wide. So I notice other peoples noses a lot looking to make sure im not alone. So its nice to know ppl are posting that they dont really pay attention to it so much, and i tell myself it probably looks diff to other ppl but i cant help it, so thanks for the thread!

I love to draw and noses that are unusual or bigger than "the norm" are fabulous, I think, to sketch. They make both men and women alike, very striking and that's much better than having some cute little nose.

My friend has a fairly large nose on her, but is so tall and her cheekbones are also very high that she looks model-esque, and is gorgeous, although she hates her nose, I believe it adds to this powerful, Amazon look, she's got going on! Hah!

I have a small nose myself, but I have always thought women with larger ones - especially with a bump in the middle - are very striking, and strong looking. It's a shame that Ashlee Simpson got a nose job; ridiculous that Jennifer Grey did (they simply don't look like "themselves" anymore). In all but the most extreme cases of deformation or injury, I wish women would leave their schnozes alone!

  • 2 weeks later...

Did you know that most people or surgens say that even if the nose job was so good and almost perfect, the person doesn's look as good as they did before. I personally have a big nose, not huge but its the one with the bump on it, and I'm also arabian so I guess its expected.

I dont ever want to get my nose done, but at the same time I hate it. Which I beleive that I learned to hate it, because since I was little my mom used to always tell me that she is going to get it done for me. Every one else, like my dad, fiance, best friend, or whomever that I know, say my nose is not big, it matches me, but I think they are just trying to be sweet to me. :)

Can a woman with a big nose be attractive to males?

no not really....what I hate even more is the hook nose which is a big nose but it looks like a parrot nose. a total turnoff. a big nose ruins the whole face.

I had no idea. This would describe my face.

The small nose - a little upturned - was made fun of in my younger years (ski jump?!!)

And the full lips - well, I paid for those during my young life with tears as well.

Years later I get compliments on them. So along with a previous poster I wish I could go back and tell my younger self not to be so torn up about those things.

And because two parts of the human body never stop growing, the nose and the ears, I've felt blessed that both are small.
