dani311306
My boyfriend and I have been dating for a little less than 9 months now. He is in the military and has been stationed in Texas for the past few months. I live in Mass....so kind of a distance. He came home about 2 weeks ago, which was amazing. It was so great to see him. But he left this morning to g to his new base in Germany. He might be there for anywhere from 2 to 3 years. And even when he gets back he won't be around here, because MA doesn't have an army base. I guess I was hoping to find someone else that knew how it felt to rely on alternate forms of communication to talk to the ones they love. Funny how the long lost art of letter writing becomes a ray of hope. Any advise/support would be great. thank you so much.

Windows Live Messenger is great for both voice and video, if you have a webcam with a mic installed. My bf and I use Logitec webcams. His is a QuickCam i think...fairly cheap, and good quality. We use Skype a lot too, that's cool, and it's free! The only problem is, that your bf is in the military, and he's in Germany, and that sucks. My BF lifes in Germany as well, and me in NH (USA), so I know what the distance you have feels like! Does your BF have an established base where you could send him stuff? One thing my cousin did for her husband (he's in the Navy) when he was in Iraq was to send him weekly boxes. The prepay boxes that you can buy at the post office, for mail within the US, are like $10 and you can put however much stuff will fit into them. I guess my cousin's husband's address was in the US, because he's with the US Navy, so she was able to spend 10$ a week on shipping, and stuff as much stuff as needed into the box. It's a cool idea, to show him that you care. The other thing is cell phones...my cousin and her husband used them to communicate, I guess the time difference worked in their favor, because whenever their free minutes kicked in, he always called her, and they had free call-me minutes, so that worked out great for them. I'm not sure what else to tell you...but good luck and stay strong!
