what is wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

This is possibly a very stupid question, but I think I have a problem.

What is wrong with me when I find nothing fun except going to the club (& drinking)? I do this only once a month, but I honestly find nothing else fun but this. I really enjoy going out to drink socially and dance, listen to the music etc. I find it boring to simply go out to a movie w/friends or something. Why is this? What is my problem & what can I do to fix this??

I don't think that's wrong at all. I also really enjoy going clubbing.

I do not enjoy seeing hollywoody movies at all, i also get bored. However, i like going to see foreign films - have you tried those? They're usually playing in semi-ghetto movie theatres.

I also get bored just going out for dinner or coffee - unless it's with someone I haven't seen in quite a while, or somebody new and exciting.

Do you like to play any sports? Perhaps you're just more into active passe-times, that's why you don't like staring at the theatre screen for 2 hrs...

In any case - i don't think anything's wrong; just keep checking out various activities, and stick to the ones you enjoy. All the rest can go to hell =)

that's my view,

Whatever you are into, that's your thing.

I personally won't be seen within miles of a club, nor would I goto one.

Just do what you like to do.

It's pretty pathetic that the only joy you get out of life is clubbing and drinking. You may be suffering from some measure of depression.

Otherwise, you need to start exploring hobbies, new friends, new destinations, all with the attitude of seeking outlets for your creative juices.

I also think if you stop focusing on your own self and what makes you happy and do things for other people...even on a volunteer basis at a hospital or childrens' home, you could find some happiness that way.

It's a big world out there. If this lack of interest in other than drinking and clubbing continues, seek counselling immediately.

Thanks Tony - I know how pathetic my situation sounds....I feel the same way...

I do suffer from depression - but counselling is not an option - it's not covered for me & I have been told by 2 general practitioners to not even bother seeking subsidied counselling since they can't even get help for their suicidal patients let alone me. I have been prescribed anti-depressant drugs which haven't seemed to change anything except to cause other negative side effects that make me want to just tolerate the depression instead.

I know the suggestions you offer would be a good thing for me - but my life is so full as it is. I am a full-time student, and I work part-time at 2 jobs (totalling about 25 hrs. per week) I also have a six year old daughter, (a diabetic, which is a source of stress on its own since her medical supplies are not covered for me & are very expensive), and a new husband (who works an opposite schedule than me so we see each other only a few hours each week. I already lead a very active life - there's no room for anything else (eg volunteering, etc.) But yet I don't derive any pleasure from it....The only leisure time I really enjoy is going to the club - and that's only once every 4 - 6 weeks, depending on when I can find a babysitter and afford a night out. I guess I sound pretty hopeless...I don't see anything changing for the better in the near future.
