I'm fat and I hate myself

Recommended Posts

Ok, first of all, I'm female, 5'9" tall and weigh around 165 lbs. I have been trying to lose weight for over a year now. I'm not really into strict dieting and I'm unable to do any heavy exercise due to a chronic medical condtion. So I walk for about an hour every day. During the past year I lost 11lbs (I used to weigh 177). However last few months, I have been unable to lose a pound.

I'm also on couple of medications that can cause weight gain but I have to take them :(. Everytime I weigh myself and discover that I haven't lost anything I cry myself to sleep. I want to lose at least 20 more pounds.

I hate the way I look, when I look in the mirror, all I see is FAT FAT FAT no matter what I wear. I'm unable to wear jeans because I look too big in them. I'm really at loss of what to do apart from stoping eating alltogether (actually I have tried that but I feel like I'm about to faint soon enough and I give in and eat something).

I just can't accept myself the way I am. I know there are people a lot bigger than me out there, but I adore fashion and I was once skinny and I can't get over that. BTW I'm in my early 30's.

My options are very limited due to being unable to do any real exercise and medications I have to take. But I simply can't go on looking like a pig, and something has to be done.

Please help!

Don't hate yourself.

You may be above your desired weight but you're not fat. I've seen fat - 5'9" and 165 pounds isn't so bad, and I'm a guy who, like any guy, notices these things, if that makes any difference.

If you've lost 10-15 pounds already, that's a sign of progress. I understand, though, that you want to lose more and that's commendable. The best ways to do that are through the regulation of your dietary intake and just exercise as much as you can (walking at night or in the mornign is excellent exercise).

You might want to seek out some counseling, though. Self-beration is not a good thing, no matter what your weight is.

Good luck.

You've done so well, losing 11 pounds is great! You're beating up on yourself way too much.

Do yoga, run up and down your stairs (or walk) many times during the day (some do this in the winter months when it's too cold and icey outside) and most of all, I suggest you find a therapist to help you change your ways of thinking. You're very hard on yourself and seeing yourself in a negative way. A therapist can help you feel more positive about yourself and work with you, to gain confidence, as well as talk about other issues in your life that may be affecting you.

You are not a pig, please don't call yourself that. You're a beautiful person, inside and out! You just need to believe in that and in yourself.

I don't think your weight sounds like too much for your height. To me 5'9" is relatively tall.

I agree that you may have a warped self-image. You may see yourself as fat when you're really not. I use to do this and still do sometimes.

What do you usually eat in a day if you don't mind me asking?

To lose weight you have to intake less calories than you expire. It may not be the amount you eat but the type of foods you eat.

Btw, a Caesar salad is not a good diet food. Try having a spinach salad with a very light vinegrette dressing (your preference in flavours) on top of it, combined with some kind of nuts, and something citrus and you will have a more filling meal which is high iron, high fibre, has protein combined with vitamin C and tastes great. The citrus will help your body absorb the iron in the spinach so don't skip that part for certain.

Try being 5'9" and over 200lbs. Thats me. And honestly I know Im overweight but I don't care what people think of me. If I were to lose weight, I would do it for myself. If I was your weight I would be happy. I got down to 190 a few yrs ago and I looked damn good and I was proud of myself.

But its good your conscientious and trying to maintain it and keep it that way... But you ARE NOT fat!

Another guy chiming in here at some point (my posts are moderated) but you are not fat in my book either. Hey you are not Paris Hilton or Nicole Ritchie, but that is not fat at all. Personally, I like a little "meat on the bones" for my women.

If you want to do some more for yourself, take WWIUs advice. She is pretty good at advice (not so on proper disposal of shaved pubic hairs though).

And congrats on your previous loss!

It's definitely what you're eating and it's not about "going on a diet".

Weight loss is and should be a lifestyle choice and a change for the long term. There are so many conflicting ideas about what works,

I'm a supporter of the "cut right down on sugar and eat 6 meals a day" plan.

I have read this is things you have to do and watch as well. I have been doing the 6 meals a day & its kind of nice being able to eat all the time even if it's just carrots or something small like that.

I feel a lot of how people see themselves is in there mind & there attitude. I bet if you ask those toothpick chicks that are models if they like there bodies they would all say; I don't like this part or I don't like that part but you have to be happy with who you are.

I use the ellipticle machine at the gym & I really like it. It doesn't have the pounding on my knees & I can't run because of three back surgeries, but since I've been working out my back hasn't been hurting. Hmmmm;)

I have also heard that if you keep doing the same rutine that your body will get used to it and knows what you are doing so it figures it doesn't have to work any harder then it has the last 20-30 times you have done before. Maybe talk to a trainer & see what they recommend.

You are being awfully hard on yourself. Try to get a copy of "Body Clutter" (check the description at Amazon.com). It's a great book, and will change your attitude and your body. :bunny:

Also one of my dear pals joined weight watchers; she was exactly your height and weight and it's really helped her out, maybe worth checking it out.

Another vote for Weight Watchers - my wife has joined and has had much success with it. Slow and steady wins the race...

Have you ever seen Jenny Finch, the softball player? She is a little taller than you, weighs a little more and most people would agree she looks great!

--"But you ARE NOT fat!"-- I agree 100% you realy are not fat and cirtinely not obese by any means. More likely your feeling this way due to the ridickluas standards you see plastered every were in popular meida now adays. Don't be so hard on your self learn to love and except your self as you are now. And then if you still wanna lose the weight for YOU then go for it...

You're being much too hard on yourself sweetie. :( You are not really fat at all and it is a huge achievement to lose 11 pounds when on medication. Standards today about the figure are completely unnatural, if the media had its way every girl would be anorexic. It's like in China during byegone eras where girls were forced to bandage their feet so they would be stunted because this was publicly considered attractive  There are probably alot of people who find your look beautiful.

We are all going to have something about our appearance we are not quite satisfied with (I did not like having a freckled face) but there are too many more important considerations too count.
