Killaine
I'm post-puberty and much taller than I'd like to be. Are there any ways (surgical or not) LS knows of that decrease height? I've heard of surgeries, but never could find much information on them. Also, anyone have or know anyone who has used any height reduction methods? Even if these work, my main concern is being improportionate so details (pros, cons, etc) are appreciated.
norajane
Height reduction? I have never heard of such a thing. You can't shorten your bones! How tall are you and why in the world do you want to be shorter?
magichands
Yeah, you can just get part of your shins cut out. But, like you say, then you look kind of stupid.
westernxer
Don't worry, your frame will shrink when you get old. Until then, play some basketball.
TheDC
The only way to shorten yourself would be to cut sections out of your shins and thighs. This would be extremely painful and would require a lengthy rehabilitation. Unless your limbs are disproportionally long or short I wouldn't recommend this procedure. Additionally unless you are disfigured most reputable doctors would refuse to do the procedure and probably recommend that you consult a therapist. You may be suffering from body dysmorphic disorder. norajane
The only way to shorten yourself would be to cut sections out of your shins and thighs. This is just horrifying. And even if some doctor were to agree (not that any doctor would!), don't you also have to cut sections out of your arms, so you'd be in proporation to the legs?
magichands
But don't let them touch your dick.

magichands
Oh well. Look on the bright side - most farts are heavier than air.

Her arms and legs are in proportion to her torso as it is. By shortening the legs they would now be out of proportion to the torso. In my estimation the OP wouldn't lose much height before starting to look odd. This sort of surgery is almost always reserved for people who have abnormally short limbs and need a little extra height to look "correct". If the OP's height was caused by a pituitary malfunction then some drugs could be used to stop the production of HGH which can cause abnormal bone growth and gigantism but it doesn't sound like that is the problem, she's just tall. To the OP how tall are you exactly?
princessa
Why are people always so hard on themselves?? Have you thought of looking at the good side of this and turning it to your advantage? Among others, one thing comes to mind: helloooooo modeling career!
Author Killaine
Well, I'm 5'8". That doesn't sound tall, but where I live most of the other women don't reach 5'2", and the guys are at best an inch or two taller than me. (Also, I heard that the minimum height requirement for models is 5'10")
GoldPenny
To the OP, if you had started bone reduction before reaching your final height, let's say about 12, you could've been injected with ethinyloestradiol which would've reduced your ultimate height (at the end of growth). I don't know about other methods.

And you're willing to undergo surgery because of that? Just to blend into the crowd? No offense but it sounds like you have more serious problems than just your height. 5'8" is perfectly normal and a good height to have. Why do you need to be like everybody else? Do you even know that most of these women who are 5'2" would probably wish they were taller? I mean, at 5'8", it doesn't get any more AVERAGE than that! I suggest you get some self-help books on how to gain some self-esteem and learn to appreciate yourself and your looks for what they are.
GoldPenny
Uhhhhh, 5'8" is not average, it is above average by at least 3 inches in most countries around the world. However, it is the "normal" tall, not "very" tall.

Okay I don't know the EXACT statistics, but if you say that 5'5" is the average, then what's the poit of going from 3" ABOVE the average to 3" BELOW the average? It's stupid. Author Killaine
The thing is, people seem to find me horribly unattractive because of my height and probably the low self-esteem that comes from it as well. I have nice features otherwise, so it's very frustrating for me.
GoldPenny
Killaine, that is quite *amazing* that people find you "horribly unattractive" due to your height because tallness or averageness are the praised attributes on the criteria of attractiveness quite frequently, particularly "tall". Where are you located?

I have nice features otherwise, so it's very frustrating for me. I think your low self-esteem comes from your inability to love your body and yourself in general. It is an unhealthy frame of mind that you find yourself in when you base your self-worth on what others define as attractive. Dwelling on appearances is also very shallow and will not bring you much happiness in the future. Think about it.. You could be Miss Universe and SOMEBODY will always find something wrong with your appearance. You can't please everybody, so it's not even worth trying. If you loved yourself for who you are as an individual, you wouldn't even pay attention to what others say about your looks. This is why I say that you need to change the way you think from within. Also, who's to say that they don't find you attractive? Midgets are always jealous of tall people everybody knows that

Go to college somewhere else, where people are taller and you'd blend right in. Nowhere in the US would you be considered too tall!
Author Killaine
Thanks, everyone...didn't get much promising height reduction information but you guys really are amazing. I guess everyone has things that they're unhappy with about themselves but they don't matter all that much. If people around here (I actually am in the US, Georgia to be specific though I'm not originally from here) don't find tall girls attractive then they're not for me anyway. My friend told me that out west aesthetics are a bit different and taller people can be seen as attractive, too. In this particular region of Georgia the people are very old fashioned...maybe that has something to do with it?
IpAncA
Oh killaine, Take it from someone who's height WAS shortened. You don't want to go thru that and I can't understand why anyone would want to. You sound like you have low self-esteem and trust me guys will want to date you. At least you have a choice to do it or not. I didn't and no not everyone else was shortened either. Everything still looks equally so my arms don't like touch my knees or something, lol!! But still, I can't imagine someone wanting to do it. That's crazy IMO. BTW I'm 5'2 and should be just under your height. But you wouldn't know unless I told you.
Author Killaine
so it looks fine and everything?
IpAncA
so it looks fine and everything? That's not the point. The point is that your messing with the spine and it shouldn't be messed with unless doctors say you need to. I had to. You don't. You have self-esteem issues. Be happy with your height. Trust me there's nothing wrong with it. Why do you want to be short anyways?
polywog
Killaine, has it occurred to you that people are Jealous??? My parents were both tall (mom 5'8" and dad over 6') and I always looked forward to being tall, but I got the short genes at 5'3-ish. If you read interviews with models and female athletes you'll find that a lot of them felt just the way you did at your age, and it doesn't matter to them now!
