I want to become a true "morning person"

Recommended Posts

Because of my work and social schedule, I really need to start getting to the office 1.5-2 hours earlier, and leaving about the same amount of time earlier. This means I need to find a way to wake up a lot earlier than I have been.

Once I'm really awake, I'm actually one of those annoyingly chipper, happy morning people. I don't need coffee, I have a spring in my step, look at the world with arms wide open... It's just that "oooh, just 5 more minutes" that prevents me from starting my day as early as I want to. (And admittedly, I probably continue to hit "snooze" for at least an hour!!)

Do any of you have any great tricks or words of wisdom for changing this pattern?? TIA!

I don't know SG...most people I know get out of bed when they have to. All I can say is go to bed a couple hrs earlier but thats also hard to do cause you miss the good stuff on TV (and no, i'm not talking about AI)

Morning exercises. That will help you, but you need to start a pattern of waking up at a certain everyday and soon enough your body will become accustomed to it.

Have you tried putting the alarm clock across the room so you have to get up and cannot just hit snooze?

It works though. That is how I wake up in the morning.

I bought a vibrating alarm for the deaf.. it has a vibrator that goes under the mattress and never makes any noise..

it is called a vibralarm..

I used to not be able to get up when I wanted to and realized that I got up right away when the phone rang but slept right thru the alarm..

Did some research and found the answer.. vibration.. it gets you right up in a split second..

I will say this though.. when I first got it I put it under my pillow and was hurting my neck getting up so fast.. so I reread the instructions and they sad to put it under the mattress..

Interesting.

I have an old hospital bed for a bed and it has the vibrating feature. Too bad it doesn't have a timer though.

It also has a normal alarm that you can turn on and then change the decibel level and frequency..

I think with the mattress attachment and dc adapter it was like 80 bucks delivered..

I have been using it for about 5 years now and swear by it..

Not too bad. Maybe this is something I should invest in. I am not exactly a morning person either.:o

Actually, yes. Unfortunately, I have mastered the art of quickly rolling over to the other side of the bed, taking 2 large springing steps to the alarm and back - all in less than 3 seconds. :o I also have an alarm clock next to my bed, as well as my cell phone (set for THREE different times!!). I think I just need a LOT of sleep, and the only way to fix the problem is to go to bed at like 10 on the dot, no later...which is going to be sooooooooo hard for me to do!!!!

WAIT! Just had an idea... If I put my alarm clock in the master bathroom, it will be way more difficult to simply hit "snooze"...ah ha! I'm gonna go stick it in there right now!!!

'Night peeps!

well that'll just take you 4 large steps and 6 seconds.

I'm a night owl, not a chirpy morning person although I'm not as bad as a friend of mine. She has three alarms. One clock radio by the side of the bed, one old-fashioned clock with a bell on the top at the foot of the bed and one more loud alarm in the closet with the closet door open. The clocks were set 10 minutes apart. It's the only way she can get up in the morning, lol.

but don't you think that is overkill TBF? I mean, I usually have my alarm set for a certain time, say 7:20am, and I ususally end up getting up by myself a few minutes before it goes off. Its the old internal body clock I guess. The only time I don't get up before it goes off is when I went out drinking the nite before or I haven't been getting enuf sleep.

She's tried every other way and still sleeps through it. It's pretty bad, lol.

A "True morning person" does not depend upon alarms. He is normally up before the alarm goes off because it is a life style. I am in a LDR and the time zone differences dictate me being on a vastly different schedule then my peers.

To work I go to bed earlier then others. Things most people do at night or after work I do before work. Like shop, workout, watch a video of the TV show everyone will be talking about tomorrow etc.

I found that because of this I have cut my morning comute by 2/3rds and picked up an hour in my life.

Start by waking about 15 minutes earlier and as you adjust push the time back until you reach your target wake up time. As you adjust start doing things in the morning and that's it

I have to agree with Taiko. I dont think we can become "true morning people" or night people just by want. For example, I know for a fact that I'm a night person. I can stay up til 5am and not have an issue (provided I dont have to get up the next day lol) and I can sleep "in" until 3pm if I let myself. I think we all have our natural tendencies. Mine isn't conducive to having a day job, so of course I fight mine during the week and go to bed at like 1-2am lol (I get up around 8am). I dont think all the alarm clocks in the world would make me not want to stay up late, and definitely wouldn't make me a morning person. I can get up when the alarm goes off, I have no issues with it, but i certainly do loathe it.

Well, I'm still in high school, so I have a set time on when to wake up.

Growing up, we never had any alarm clocks in the house. (Until 4 years ago when my dad got a cell phone. I have one too, but I never use it.)

Anyways, my mom became my alarm clock, and I always press the "snooze button."

Every morning, I want to get more sleep, so I go back to sleep. But then, I tend to wake up no later than 5 minutes after.

On weekends, I tend to wake up an hour or two later.

However, if it's any later than 9AM, I get up automatically, even if I slept at 1am the last night.

There's always an exception to the rule, because I woke up at 10AM before, because I slept at 3AM in the morning.

It hurt my head for 3 days.

Yup, I guess that's all I had to say.

If you guys find an answer to this problem, let me know. I'm a non-morning person and just cannot seem to forfeit the extra "5 minutes" of morning sleep....that stretches on...and on...

It's not so much about hating mornings, it's about loving nights so much. Nights are my best time of the day (ignore the antithesis). I feel more alive at night, and I find it tremendously empowering to be awake when all the suckers are sleeping.

And in the morning all the same suckers conform to stupid norms and file out of the house by 8 a.m. Hah!! Morons!!

But deep in my heart, I so want to be one of those suckers....
