How do you all feel about cosmetic height increase, especially if you're below average but are not a dwarf? I think the limit to cosmetic height increase is 3 inches usually by the way.

I would never want it, but I feel the same way as I do for almost any other cosmetic alteration: If it will make you more confident and feel better about yourself, do it (Provided it's 'safe').

I'm short at 5'3" so I do feel self-conscious about it. I know there are bright sides, but those sides do not make that drastic of a difference.

I know how you feel, in reverse. I could point out all the good points but apparently that doesn't help you. From what I hear, increasing height is easier and safer and more effective than decreasing it. If it's really making you that self-conscience, I say go for it.

It's funny how some people think that oh, IF ONLY I were taller.. IF ONLY I were thinner.. IF ONLY I had bigger boobs.. I'd have all the happiness in the world and all my problems will go away under the surgeon's knife. Yes.. keep telling yourself that...

I don't like it at all, but that doesn't mean I disagree with it all the way.

I mean, if someone really wants to / has to, then I guess it's okay.

Personally, I wouldn't undergo it.

I would just stick with what I have.

I didn't particularly like myself because of my height (4'11") before, but that has long since changed.

About a year or two ago, I guess I stopped caring.

I was born this way, and have been short all my life, so I'll just deal with it.

Basically, the only reason I hate being short

1: I might get kidnapped and raped.

I'm short (4'11") and have never really found it a problem. Sure, people often tell me "You're so short!"...bah, what can you do?

I guess I'm lucky that I'm a woman and so it doesn't impact on my choice of partners, I've gone out with short men (still taller than me) and very tall men (current one is 6'7"!). Generally men find me 'cute and cuddly' and I've got no complaints about that! hehe

I say embrace it. Height is what makes some people (like me) unique and if that's your 'thing' then play on it. It's something that makes you stand out from the others...wouldn't you much rather that than just blend in with the crowd?

I get that too but my favorite is "you know your short?" Oh now I didn't. Thanks I though I was tall. Yeah I know how can I not.:laugh:

I dont know if you are male or female but honestly to me, it doesn't matter. I'm a female, and am 5'4". I just dated a guy who was shorter than me. At first, I found it a little different, but I quickly realized how little it mattered.

It really shouldn't matter how tall you are, there will always be someone out there who will love you for who you are. As far as life being better "if only" i'm sure we all have that. I'm sure if i were lose weight, I'd still find reasons to say "if only" just with something new.

I think we should play the hand that was dealt to us, rather than focusing on what others have that we don't. Maybe their lives aren't all that hot either.

I've heard those operations are extremely painful but are fairly common in Asia, not sure why they're not as much in the US. I don't think we know what the long term side effects are in old age, considering they cut your bone in half and stick metal implants in between to give you height. I mean what if you're one of 80% who gets osteoperosis and your bones begin to crumble, you'd probably end up losing a leg or requiring extra operations at an old age when your body can't handle that much trauma.

Well made 3 inch heels are very comfortable and at the end of the day you can take them off and be your short self with no medical risks involved. I think someone who wants such a drastic operation and feels so insecure with their height should first get some hardcore therapy which I'm sure the doctors who perform these procedures might recommend.

Be thankful for what you have. There're guys in wheelchairs, obese people who don't have a shot in hell of ever having a sex life, and mentally ill people who will never have a good relationship. And you're complaining over a silly little height issue? 5'3" isn't anywhere near midget status, so don't be complaining.

I am female.

I don't think that height is the pursuit of happiness; I just think it's a flaw in my case that can be fixed and add to happiness a great deal. There's no indication from me here at all of height being the golden key to success.

As for the osteoporosis, that shouldn't be impacted as the effects of these bone-lengthening procedures are guaranteed to heal completely like most surgeries. It's not like I'll do it when I have osteoporosis.

I don't care for heels as I don't like wearing them in any case, and what happens when I change shoes or take them off anyway?

I know the surgery can be extremely painful, but there is a new technology, Fitbone, that decreases it drastically but is more expensive. I don't know my pain threshold well, but it's pretty darn good. A price range I saw for all bone-lengthening surgeries (cosmetic) on average was 15,000-35,000, I believe.

5'3" is an inch and a half below the US average of women in this generation.

*shrugs*

Well good luck with that.

=D

It's not that I'm against it; it's just that I'll never do it.

Anyways... ah!

You're an inch and a half below US average of women.

Since I'm female, that means I'm five inches and a half below average.

O_O!
