People who restrict themselves to live longer.

So my husband has been on this kick that everything is going to kill him.

So he stopped drinking Diet soda from the Aspartame , stopped smoking (obvious) Stopped eating turkey due to the process. Oh and he won't paint the bathroom b/c the fumes can cause cancer. And so forth and so forth.

I live life as if I was going to die tomorrow. I can. I can die on the flight or on the bus or in my car or crossing the street.

Restricting yourself to live longer is not living. Having to worry if what you are about to eat has a deadly sugar that causes cancer just doesn't seem fun.

Any thoughts?

I think you should restrict yourself to a reasonable point.

It seems like you husband is going over board. But the basics no herion, smoking, drinking in excess, eating Mc Donalds every day ya da ya da.

As a side note artifical sweetners are bad for you. They give me migraines and I don't like fake food anyways, I am trying to switch to organic veggies & fruits and meat that are as unprocessed as I can get.

I want to buy a cow well 1/2 a cow maybe a pig too.

Exactly. There is a point where you are going overboard.

The air is not exactly 100% fresh and clean. I am sure that contributes to our death in some way.

Moderation is the key.

Everything in moderation including moderation.

I used to work with a woman like this 10 yrs back. Her whole life revolved around being healthful. Every one of her habits reeked of health. She was the poster-child of health.

She ened up dying of massive cancer at age 53

There are things that will definitely increase your odds of getting cancer like smoking, or dying of heart disease like eating butter with everything and being obese. So you can be smart and do things like exercise, eat properly and not smoke. Beyond that there really isn't much else you can do. When your number is up, it's up.

I had cancer and while I was doing chemo I met a woman who lived the perfectly healthy life, she was a vegan who ate only organic food, never smoked or drank, exercised and generally did everything right, yet she was going to die of cancer. I, on the other hand, was fat, I used to smoke, I drink alcohol and eat red meat and generally lived a fairly unhealthy life but my cancer was relatively mild and certainly not fatal.

I'm healthier now because what time I have left I want it to be healthy and fun, but there is no telling what will kill you in the end so why obsess over it. You should live a healthy life only in as much as it gives you a good quality of life and allows you to enjoy everything life has to offer you. I'm the worst kind of healthy person, I'm one who used to be unhealthy and let me tell you it's so much better being on the healthy side. But not painting that just sounds paranoid.

Is he upset about something else? Is someone close to him ill or was there a death in the family recently? I just wonder where this all is coming from. People usually don't do such a 180 so quickly unless something happened.

Great that he's taking caution on what he eats, and quitting smoking is good too! The paint thing is uhmmm, let's say he's being paranoid. That to me is the red flag.

Talk to him and find out what's really going on inside him.

Exactly! You never know when your wife might get pissed off because of your habits and decide that the kitchen knife is a "must have" accessory.
