Will he EVER come back?

Recommended Posts

I've been dating a guy for about 3 months now. Things seemed great but all of a sudden he said he needed to make himself happy before he could make a girlfriend happy. He said it wasn't all of a sudden and he's been feeling this way and it's been building up. I don't understand why it happened out of the blue when I thought things were fine. He says it's not about meeting other people and he isn't going out to bars more or less and is taking the time to make himself happy. We have both always been in relationships, I am only his second relationship after a 6 year one. We both have never had time to find out who we are as individuals, and now he wants that time. At first I wanted to stay with him while he worked through it all, but it just couldn't happen. He is about to have a real job, and in a few months I'll be going 4 hours away to school. We both say if the time is right, and if we want to be together, we can hook back up in the future. It hurts so bad right now, and I'm trying to give him his space, and leave him alone so MAYBE he will miss me, but my only fear is that I will never be together with him again and will find out he ended up with someone else.

I think you gotta let it go. I have been in 2 LTRs that were each over 4 years plus. Sounds to me like the guy is about 25 or 26 coming off a 6 year LTR. Though I don't know his history in what happened there, he sounds as if he is just not ready for another LTR at this time.

I can understand that because I took a 5 year break from dating after my last LTR. I needed time to reflect on things and assess my needs. He probably has to do the same thing. I think it is unfair for him to have dated you, especially if he was not ready, but I sicerely think he just isn't ready for a steady at this time in his life. Timing is everything when you meet the one for you, so maybe he isn't. You'll get there, trust me you will...

Just my take on things...

I think he's doing the right thing and you'd do well to follow suit. He's learning a very valuable lesson in life, he's learning the importance of being your own person and growing and standing your own ground in life. Too many people fall into the unhealthy cycle of co-dependant relationships and he's realizing he wants to end it. Good on him. Will he come back? I think if he establishes independance and his own self indentity he isn't going to be interested in someone who hasn't done the same.

Yes, he is almost 25 years old. He and his ex split in October and we started seeing each other at the end of December. Not enough in between time, I know. We have both made it known that we miss each other, and remain on good terms, and have even hung out once. But we both realize right now is not the right time and we can't offer each other more than friendship at this point. He has made improvements in his character and is making an apparent attempt at turning over a new leaf.
