Strattera for anxiety

Recommended Posts

LaughMachine

Out of two years of trying to find the perfect remedy for my severe anxiety, this is the first time I've ever been prescribed adhd medicine. I'm sure I have a bit of adhd and anxiety mixed together and hopefully strattera will take the edge off my anxiety.

Anyone ever try Strattera?

i don't know anything about strattera LM. For anxiety I believe that Xanax or some other benzodiazepine is prescribed, they are quite effective.

I've never taken Straterra but it sounds like it may be useful for some people that are dealing with anxiety. Currently it is an ADD/ADHD drug but originally it was developed for use as an antidepressant but the unreleased clinical studies didn't show the results that the developer was looking for and so they tried it on the ADHD crowd and the rest is history...

Something that may work for your anxiety is Buspar it's not addictive.

I'd stay away from anything with addictive potential if you are thinking about using the drug long term. That would include the benzodiazepines like Valium and Xanax.

Drugs provide symptomatic relief and if the underlying cause of the anxiety is not dealt with in some way the anxiety is likely to resurface again and again throughout your life. Counseling with someone that specializes in anxiety seems like the best long term solution to me.

Good luck! :)

The underlying cause to my problem is that It's physical. That right there has caused my thoughts and anxiety to worsen over a period of time. Counseling would be very beneficial but right now I know I need medication for these physical symptons.

I never used to be like this until my last semester of my junior year in highschool. I started getting tremors, twitches and would shake tremendously. That right there caused me to turn the normal things in to fearful things. Basically because my body had changed dramatically

I've become used to it, but defiently bothered by it and very frustrated with it still being this way. Who knows maybe time and age will help my anxiety. I know I have alot of time left before I hit the " mid life crisis" stage of my life haha jk

My sister-in-law's daughter who is 16 is taking it and it's helping her with her ADHD. But I read horror stories about Strattera. You can die from it. Google it.

I have been googling Strattera like no other and have found no cases of someone DYING. but I have read about people commiting suicide? Is that what your talking about? If so I know alot of drugs share that same type of effect only on certain people.

I'm also going to pick up my klonopin ( the doctor had prescribed) today. I've googled it and have only read good things so far. But honestly It sounds so good that I don't know if I want to have to take this drug every day.

It seems as if klonopin puts you on a high of talking and a relief of social anxiety. I don't want something that will change me completely. I still want a challenge in life. I just want my body to feel normal. Will taking klonopin every day make me dependent upon it? ah..

I am currently taking a medicine similar to Strattera. I have ADD though.

But, since I've been taking it, my previous anxiety/stage-fright behavior is no longer a problem for me. My mind would just go blank, whenever I was put on the spot to think fast. This was caused from anxiety.

Used to take Lexapro, until I was put on this medication. Now, I am off the anti-depressant and happy with my new meds.

Had an instance just yesterday, when I had to make some deliveries. I had to do some calculations right in front of the customer, so they would pay up front.

In the past, I would never be able to control my racing thoughts enough to concentrate on the task. I would just be a nervous wreck, and completely stressed out.

But, yesterday, I was able to empty my mind and just concentrate on one thing. I wasn't nervous or stressed out. Things went very smooth for me.

Also, my sleep patterns have improved. My racing thoughts don't keep me awake anymore.

The warnings on this medication deal with them being a stimulant. Heart-attacks are possible. But, that's a doctor issue. Your doctor will want to see you routinely while you are on this medication.

So anyways, laughmachine, have you started taking it yet? With me, the medication made my problems go away instantly.

Yes I am on the adhd drug, this is my second day taking it. I see no results so far but I don't expect to see any in a period of two days! right?

All medications have their disadvantages but I really do need to be on something to take the edge off!!

As of taking the klonopin alphamale, I'm afraid to always be on it because it seems like a drug that you aren't supposed to take everyday, but once in a while. Everyone has put them in a different category from anti d's and anti d's are supposed to help you long term yet benzos seem only short term and momentarily? make sense.

I'm about to pick up the klonopin in a few but will take it at night, that way if it makes me sleepy I'll be able to fall asleep. I'm always afraid of taking new medications because I never know how my mind will react to them. Luckily I am off of work for a cuple of days and am on spring break! yay haha

Parallax - Another

This is my first day taking Strattera, Originally designed as an antidepression med, Ely Lily decided instead to market it as a ADHD med.

I'm starting on 40mg. The current thinking is that a person wont notice much for several days until it builds up in the body, but I gotta tell you, I felt the change one hour after taking it. Yeah, hard to believe but what can I say.

I felt a heightend sense of self, more acute, more composed and in control.

While working on my laptop, I zone into my work like a tractor beam.

A few things to notice already.... a bit of difficulty in urinating, a little dry mouth but no big deal. And....something that I wont go into at the moment concerning a male problem...something unexpected. LEave it at that.

Overall, I got a lot of stuff done today. Let's see how it progresses.

Actually, meds like Strattera work instantly in the body. It doesn't build up like an anti-depressant might. That's what my doctor told me.

When I am on my meds, I am ON...when the meds wear off, I am OFF. Like a light switch in my brain.
