johan
How many people have you met who were really worth being with for the long term in all the time since you were old enough to care? I'd say it's been about 16 years for me since it started to matter, and I've probably met two or three women who I think I could really have had something special with. magichands
I think it happens all the time. If you're mixing with people. I like this quote from Four Weddings. Well, I don't know, Charlie. The truth is, unlike you, I never expected the thunderbolt. I always just hoped that l'd meet some nice, friendly girl, like the look of her, hope the look of me didn't make her physically sick, then pop the question and settle down and be happy. polywog
Well, people who seemed worth being with vs. acually worth being with is more accurate for me. I suppose there have been 5 and I had LTRs and one marriage. The person I married, #4, was the only one I wanted to marry, as I had never been interested in marriage before him. That ended and the man that is my recent ex after 9 years is the most recent.
polywog
I think it happens all the time. If you're mixing with people. I like this quote from Four Weddings. Yeah, but you didn't answer the question! About yourself! And I'm extremely curious! !
Jinxx
How many people have you met who were really worth being with for the long term in all the time since you were old enough to care? Only three.
Kwo-ne'-she
Three for me as well.
Trialbyfire
For really close friends, probably around 10 people who I've kept up friendships with since we were together in Highschool. For men, probably around 2. That doesn't mean that some of the guys I've dated haven't been great guys, it just means that they weren't what I was looking for.
Author johan
In how long though? If it's three, but you've only been "of age" (or however you want to phrase it), then that's one a year. I'm kind of interested in seeing what the frequency has been for people.
westernxer
That's a good question. I don't think I've met any, or else I can't remember at this very moment.
pricillia
People have different degrees of signifigance in your life, well at least for me anyway... For the most part I have always had long term relationships with the intention of having them last a long time. But for me I guess it was 2 and 1/
climbergirl
That is a good question. And I hate it because it makes me regretful. If you mean 'at the time' you thought they were the one for you then maybe 3. But in retrospect...only one. He made me want to be a better person, and I made him want to be a better person. I guess it wasn't the right time?

Trialbyfire
As for the frequency question, since I started dating at around 12 - 13, rounding up, that would be one per decade.

Island Girl
Only One. I mean if I'd met anyone worth being with before -- I'd still be with him. So since the age of 17 -- there were a lot of relationships where I thought it might be "forever" thing. But I was usually too strong for them. And in the end we broke up - there are a myriad of reasons. Bottom line is I have only met one man in the last 20 years (wow that's a long time!) that got me to "stick". And that is my husband. I'd say it's been about 16 years for me since it started to matter, and I've probably met two or three women who I think I could really have had something special with. For me it has never been so much a matter of not seeing the worth in a man. I guess I dated seriously for about six years before I got married, and I was able to picture myself with several guys of very different types. But there was always some obstacle that made me realize it wouldn't work: Boyfriend 1--moody, depressive and occasionally suicidal Boyfriend 2--just wasn't that into me, while I adored him. It was unbalanced. Boyfriend 3--although he may not have realized it, he was in love with a female friend of his at the time we were together. After we broke up, he married her. Boyfriend 4--had a temper he failed to control. But great sex. Future Husband--well, the obstacles was I didn't really lust after him that intensely, but everything else was wonderful, so I married him.

bluetuesday
what a good question. erm... the short answer is none in about 16/17 years. i've never met a person who was truly suited to me on an emotional, intellectual and spiritual level. all the people i've dated have been off in one or more of those areas.
