lonelybird
This is perfect prescription for depression. Stop complaining, and begin to praise! Don't tell me it is useless, I came from there, I know it. Same situation two persons. One is praising, one is complaining. Who do you think will get out the situation quickly? The former learned from the situation, and get out with better perspective; the later still remain complaining.... Same situation two persons. One is capable of searching out positive things behind the negative things from the situation; One is only capable of searching out negative things and ignore positives things. Who do you think will grow more mature and get out more quickly? Every thing is for a reason. Good thing, enjoy; bad thing, learn. We need a positive perspective than anything else. Positive perspective will eventually bring us to the dream land. A woman, a man, money, power cannot bring us to there. God use both good things and bad things to shape us, to guide us into our perfect destiny. The sooner we surrender, the less we suffer. No matter what happens, God use it for a good reason. and we should trust on God totally. stop worry.
Author lonelybird
Matthew 6:25 "This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn't life worth more than food? And isn't the body worth more than clothes? 6:26 Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren't you worth much more than birds? 6:27 Can any of you live a bit longer(e) by worrying about it? 6:28 "And why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow: they do not work or make clothes for themselves. 6:29 (*)But I tell you that not even King Solomon with all his wealth had clothes as beautiful as one of these flowers. 6:30 It is God who clothes the wild grass-grass that is here today and gone tomorrow, burned up in the oven. Won't he be all the more sure to clothe you? What little faith you have! 6:31 "So do not start worrying: 'Where will my food come from? or my drink? or my clothes?' 6:32 (These are the things the pagans are always concerned about.) Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. 6:33 Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things. 6:34 So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings. .......................................
Love Hurts
As the Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years they murmured and complained. On their own they never knew from one day to the next where they would find water or food. Still they did not die of thirst or miss a meal, nor did their shoes wear out. Talk about no security of future and still they were provided for. As we have question marks for our tomorrows, we too need to trust in God and not murmur. In good times and in bad times… we are to Praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord is our duty as believers. It glorifies God when we Praise and give Honor to Him. It feels good to us to Praise the Lord and we shun demons from us as we Praise the Lord. It’s very good to Praise the Lord. Just as the Israelites wandered in the dessert and were provided for, our security is in the Lord. Praise Jesus! God Bless*
LaughMachine
Mental placebos perhaps? I wish I could think for my self. I see too many " intelligent threads " in debating about god not exisiting. But I think your right to some point.
Topper
Thee are many Christians that are severely Depressed and on medication. Faith has been shown to bea great comfort to a lot of people. yet all studies show that it is faith alone and not any particular faith that aids in a persons over all well being. If I recall studies show that Buddhist as a whole are some of the most mentally and emotionally healthy people of all religions.
quankanne
depression has spiritual ramifications, but is physical in nature. Proper medication is what is needed to help set right an out of whack blood chemistry; prayer helps ease the spiritual pain. It's two completely different things, even though they manifest in one person.
Erik
Being religious is, in a clinical sense, no different than being insane: your a priori is that nothing, nobody, no argument and no data will ever dissuade you from your delusion. Only difference between a Jesus-freak and a guy that believes he is Napoleon is, we pretend the Jesus-freak is normal. We are doing him no favours. Religious people should be institutionalised. sunshinegirl
I hope you're not suggesting that someone who is clinically depressed need only praise Jesus to be healed. I have experienced bouts of clinical depression in which no amount of scripture reading, prayer, or praise could shake it. It was primarily a physical problem, my friend, not a spiritual one. Christians who discourage the appropriate medical treatment of depression for their brothers and sisters who experience it do them an incredible disservice. It sets them up to believe their depression is their fault and/or that their faith isn't strong enough to overcome it.

pricillia
Chocolate Jesus can bring temporary happiness, until you eat it all. or chocolate in general, the living kind or the confectionary kind... they both are proven to raise the seratonin level in your brain:love: But seriously being of healthy mind has more to do then done praying, it is replacing negative thoughts with positive ones and also appreciating the good things that you have in life. pricillia
also I think that in the Church there is a standard that can not be upheld, this thread is just making people who choose an additional way to feel guilty which could possibly have a snow ball effect into a deeper depression, I say why not stop the cycle now! People need to be allowed to feel pain and work through it, if they find comfort in knowing that a prescribed anti depressant will help then they should listen to thier doctor who went to school. Personally I prefer alternative medicine and would not decide to go on an AD drug, but that is just me. If you pray... fine but reguradless one still needs to eat properly to enhance thier mood http://www.weight.com/Eating_Disorders/eating.html I think I am going to eat a piece of chocolate
