Secrets of the Sexes....

Recommended Posts

There's an upcoming series on PBS about men and women and their relationships. Like most of the stuff on PBS I think it will be quite informative and entertaining

Try to watch and we can discuss here (hope it doesn't cut into anyone's AI time). Its a three part series...the show descriptions and broadcast times are below (your PBS station may be different):

A hilarious, provocative, and always informative and entertaining series, destroying myths and uncovering startling new truths about the real differences between men and women. We might have been conditioned to think that men and women are the same but as this series reveals, we are utterly, fundamentally different. And we've been destined to be so since the dawn of our species. This engaging series puts science to the test with real people leading real lives.

#101 Brainsex - Tues March 27, 9pm (EST)

Here, five men and five women are put through a number of tests to see if their brains are categorised by scientists as more male or female. They soon then learn that the sex of the brain does not necessarily match the sex of the body. A scientist also takes a look at the brains of a couple who constantly disagree, to see if he can find any clues in their brain activity as to why they fail to understand each other. The programme also meets a man who has changed the sex of his brain; a scientist studying what effect pre-natal levels of testosterone may have on behaviour; and another who claims he can predict the outcome of a race based purely on the length of the competitors' ring and index fingers.

#102 Matchmaker - Tues April 3, 9pm (EST)

In a ground-breaking experiment, a zoologist, experimental psychologist, and evolutionary biologist test their theories of mutual attraction on 100 single men and women. They analyse every part of the face and body and study their psychological and social profiles to find out what the key predictors of sexual chemistry really are.

#103 Science of Love - Tues April 10, 9pm (EST)

Statistics show that half of all marriages end in divorce. However, scientists think they have found the secret of longlasting love. They have identified how love works and think they can even predict which marriages will last. In this episode, they try the ultimate test: saving relationships when they are in major difficulties. Four couples take part in a battery of experiments to find out if the scientists really do have the answers

scientists really do have the answers

True, that. Just long-winded, conservative ones. And sensitive to which way the wind is blowing.

I think it'll be interesting, as long as it isn't monotone. Most shows on PBS are too monotone for me.

I feel like telling the narrator to shut the f^ck up. :)

lmao, Amg. :p

I like PBS. I might watch these although no matter how many times scientists try to explain men and women, there will always be people that don't fit the box.

Know the feeling. I've come to the conclusion that a few metal skewers might have helped.

Thank God you made me lose my appetite. I've been a bottomless pit all day today. It occurred to me while I did my calorie count for today that fat people must really eat a lot. I still have like almost a thousand calories to go to gain one pound and the thought of food makes me ill right now.

Fat people must really eat a ton of food.

Sorry Alpha to jack off your thread. :D

I think I've seen this series. I actually felt a little bothered by it. If you're a romantic person at all, it's better not to understand why we do what we do from a biological/evolutionary perspective. It reminds you that we're just animals trying to keep our genes in the pool. And then it doesn't seem like such a wonderful thing.

It's the same feeling I got watching the show about dogs. They were bred selectively for their "suck-up" characteristics, and appeal to us because we created them to. Now they can't survive without us. They are almost like parasites.

But the show on the sexes films people walking together with their arms around each other. The explanation is that this is a protective/possessive posture, letting others know "this one is taken". It's not as much a sign of love as it is an act of animalistic insecurity. The parts on body language are interesting. The pheromones thing is kind of a drag.

Maybe what I saw was a different show, but I don't think so. I would expect similar things from this one anyway.

Also I believe PBS schedules are completely under the control of the local stations. So when/if you get to see these shows is anyone's guess.

Hey, thats the show.:)

I really do hope that is the total and not per person.

No I think it was that one person. It said "I eat 33,000 calories a day" not "we".

I think those men and that woman would be really good at oral...staying on topic...

The truth is we are animals. The most advanced form of animals but we are animals nonetheless.

I don't know why you're squeamish when you think about it...perhaps it's the side of your brain that gets the most activity that makes you think/feel this way?

I'm not squeamish about it. It just kills the romance. That's my problem. Watch the shows and enjoy.
