Warm weather is here, time for warm weather clothes, and for me, time for a tan.

I know some people think it's stupid but I feel better and more attractive when I have a nice tan. I like tanning booths but everyone here seems to think they are the son of satan and advise against them. Are they really that bad for you?? Even if used once in a while for a couple months a year? Really? By the time I'm 40 won't they have some crap on the market that can fix the damage anyways?

What do you guys consider a good tanning alternative? I've done the mist tan and it was dissapointing at best. I don't want to look orange, i don't wanna look blotchy and i don't want my skin to stain the white couch.

Thanks :bunny:

Ok, I have been waiting for almost two weeks for my order of Xen-Tan to arrive. It was on backorder but the csr told me that they have received a whole new shipment in the warehouse.

She stated that it is very popular, and hard to keep in stock...obviously.

Hopefully, it will get here quick, and then I can give you my own product review.

It's expensive, but I'm worth it.

Doubtful.

Utraviolet rays are a contributing factor to skin cancer. Your body synthesizes Vitamin D when exposed to ultraviolet light, and Vitamin D is a cancer fighter. Taking D supplements doesn't have the same effectivity. 15 to 20 minutes of sunlight a day is good for you.

I think if you want a tan, you should. But with moderation and care. Sunburn is no good, nor is excessive tanning. I also think tanning booths are lame. Just go do something in the sun.

Thank you johan. I do spend time out in the sun, I just want a little something extra all over my body.

My bf agrees with tanning booths being lame and chuckles a bit when i bring it up. I like them because you go for only a few minutes and don't burn, they also have filters for your face.

Would taking vitamin D make it less harmful?

I tan a couple of times a week, keeping my face covered. Good or bad can't go without my tanning. Plus I wear shorts year round and in doing so, would rather look tanned then not tanned.

The solarium also gives you an orange tan. I wouldn't count on researchers finding effective treatment to cure skin cancer in 15 years.

I use L'Oreal's SUBLIME GLOW Daily Moisturizer for Medium tones. It's great. I put it on and go to sleep. In the morning I take a shower. Unless you have white sheets, it won't leave a stain. The stains can be washed anyway. Buy darker colored sheets and save money, time, and health. It takes 5 minutes to put the cream on. It looks very, very natural and evenly spread on your skin.

I wait for it to dry before climbing into bed. ;)

Well RP, I spend zero dollars and do nothing and I still wake up brown every morning. It's great.

What can brown do for you?

Why don't you just spend some time in the sun?

I think this is how most people around here get tanned, anyways. It's fun. It's free. And it also helps your body naturally generate vitamin D. And that's good because most people don't have enough vitamin D in their bodies.

Anyways, yes . . . why not hit the beach? I think it's hot enough.

Personally, this is the only way I get tanned. I don't really like tans, though, and my skin is kind of pale and extremely sensitive, so if I go to the beach, or even just out, really, I always come back brown. =\

I went to the beach this past Sunday and I have tan lines on my chest, arms, and thighs. Eww. Me no likes.

I love tanning even though I am 100% aware of the damages immediate grattification takes the lead. With me I have sensitive skin not super pasty pale but def. light colored. I get extreme razor burn, and heat bumps too but yet when I am tan I shave less often and dont have nearly 1/4th the skin problems.

I have dark hair and light blue eyes so when I am tan I feel very sexy. I usually go to the beach once a year and fry (not on purpose) and then I somewhat tan in beds for the remainder of the summer. I know tanning beds as well as too much sun is very dangerous but I think its more of an individual prefrence

Yes tanning beds are that bad... going in a tanning bed for 10 minutes is just as bad as going and laying on the beach for 2 hours with no sun protection, even though you may not burn from the tanning bed you are exposing yourself to the same amount of UV rays. Google tanning statistics and you can find a bunch of information

I highly doubt that by the time you (or me for that matter) are 40 there will be a cure for skin cancer, there haven't been many advances in their research. I think they are still trying to figure out what genes are involved and what they do, I could be wrong on that.

I would recommend the coppertone sunless tanning product that comes in a light greenish container with two tubes inside. I have used that for years and no one has been able to tell that I have a fake tan. I also like the jergens daily tanning lotion, but the coppertone one is more dramatic. I always wear light colored shirts and skirts and have yet to turn anything orange :)

Some girls look too orange and fake! I tan as well and I do feel more attractive with a tan, nothing wrong with that. Go in a medium bed every other day for about a week and you should look good!

If you don't want to get in the whole tanning bed mess you can get a good self tanner. Rub it through out your whole body smoothely. I've used self tanner and It's come out really good!

Go out in the sun for a day or two, if their is sun !

I use a rub on tanning lotion by [PM me for product name - LS rule] which is made of all natural ingredients. It goes on pretty nicely, not orange because it's not a stain. Then I spend time in the sun to get it darker, although you can just apply more layers instead.

I think tanning is great! It helps my skin because I suffer from extreme razor burn and heat bumps but tanning minimizes this as well keeps from shaving so often for some reason and makes me feel sexy and more thin too. I know its harmful but I like being tan I usually go to the beach and fry (not on purpose) and stick to the beds for most of the summer for that all over tan

Even though they can be dangerous they are quick and easy I believe if you do it safely and in moderation your results long term would be better than someone who wasnt careful..

I use tanning beds too. If done correctly, I don't burn at all, and I generally burn in the sun. Fair skin, fair eyes, and ,as younger, a fair hair color make me more vulnerable to burning.

I start very slowly. The stand up bed I visit recommends 3 minutes 3 times a week the first week followed by 3 5 minute visits, followed by 3 7 minute visits, followed by 3 9 minute visits followed by 3 15 minute visits.

I never tried that but 9 minutes followed by 15 minutes seems like too much to me.

I do two 7 minute visits followed by two 8 minute visits, etc. until I am up to 15 minutes every time. I go 3 times weekly until I reach my goal, then only go once weekly to keep my tan.

I agree that I look better tanned, and thinner, too. It really helps my skin all over, especially my face, which seems to have discovered acne after 40. I don't think it ages me more than age itself has. I am a moisturizer user year round.

Do not go daily. I tried that and if you have any tendency to burn, you will. Skip a day between tans and you will still achieve the desired result. It seems like it would be slower but it isn't.

I have just achieved my perfect bronzed self this week after three weeks of tanning and I look great and am ready to do maintenance tanning. My belly and back are downright brown.
