Star Gazer
How much do you pay for your gym membership? Is it worth it to you based on the services/amenities that are included? Anyone a member of Gold's Gym?? Thoughts?
Porn_Guy
you'll probably pay $100-$200 initiation fee up front and then have to sign a contract for a set period like a year or two. Then you'll pay $20-$30 per month for an average gym and around $40-50/month for a higher end gym. Most gyms will let you try out the gym for a week or two with free passes. I suggest this. Also, try to get the shortest contract term you can. Some places let you go month to month without a contract but the monthly fees will be much higher.
tanbark813
I'm with Gold's. ~$100 sign-up and $40 / mo. I signed up with them about 3 years ago. I went with Gold's over 24 Hour because Gold's is mainly weights whereas 24 Hour is mainly cardio (at least the ones near me, anyway). It's been worth it, IMO.
lindya
Mine is about (quick conversion from £ to $) $130 per month. Not cheap, but definitely worth it to me. It's got a clean, warm swimming pool - my main reason for joining - is quiet and the people are very nice. In a cheaper gym I used to go to, it was crowded and it could be difficult to get on certain pieces of equipment. When you finally did, some bulked up body would instantly start hovering intrusively over you so that you'd get uncomfortable and move off the machine they want to use. I found it a terrible chore to go there, and tended not to bother - which was a waste of a membership fee. Although the place I go to now is expensive, it feels like a relaxing treat. The other people are polite and friendly, and I end up getting more value for my money because because I actually use the facilities regularly.
Pyro
I pay $60 a month and I had to pay around $150 to start up, but it was well worth it. This gym is open 24/7, with the exception of a few holidays and it has plenty to offer: child care, spa, salon, health food cafe, indoor and outdoor pool, plenty of different classes, personal trainers, a gym for basketball, squash, and racquetball. This place is two stories, so everything is not so crammed together. I use to go to golds. I had to complaints. The other place is just a lot closer to home for me.
yousaveme
Mine use to be a gold's gym a few years back. And like everyone has said mainly weights. This past year they have been bringing in a more health clud feel to it. More Cardio classes etc... $150 membership startup fee. And I pay $35 a month.
EC
I am with LA fitness and I love it. I payed $100 sign up and $40.00 a month. No contract cancel anytime. I think its worth it because I can also use the swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, raquet ball plus all the workout machines. The only thing I hate of course is waiting to use a machine. But thats the only thing. The other thing I but may not apply so much for guys..is the classes they have. Like aerobics, yoga, latin impact. I get to dance into shape Its great

Fun2BMe
I'm thinking about buying a couple of the exercise machines I use the most at the gym and exercising from home. I'm thinking it will save travel time, but don't know if it'll result in exercising more, less or the same amount. Does anyone exercise from home? It seems more motivational being around others and after making the effort to get to the gym. On the other hand, it seems more convenient having your own shower and all your personal things handy and accessible from home.

I used to exercise from home but its very hard to get motivated and keep it up. I'd recommend keeping the gym membership F2BM. If you start working out at home it probably won't last long but, hey, at least you'll be clean!! -alpha just call me "Arnie"

I am clearing out a room to make room for exercise equipments. I'm even thinking about covering a wall with a floor to ceiling mirror like at the gym, putting a tv up in the corner and all that. But yes, the motivation thing is better at the gym. When I notice someone watching I admit I put the setting on a more strenuous level and exercise harder and longer to show off:laugh: I'm torn as to what direction to take. I don't want to invest a lot of money into a home gym only for it to collect dust. On the other hand, what if it turns out to be the best thing.
alphamale
That's not what I wanted to hear! A thousand pardons F2BM, um....yes, I think you should get a home gym and workout there. Its much less hassle than driving to the gym and paying all those fees and having all those strange men gawk at you. The gym is worthless as far as i'm concerned. -alpha the ultimate yes man

pelagicsands
My company has two really nice corporate gyms that I work out at Wow, what great benefits. You are lucky. Then again, they should probably pay you to flash your hot bod in public.
