Fun2BMe
Because in the old days only a few children survived the first few years of life. Augustus promoted early marriage and spoke out against homosexuality, because he was worried about the sudden drop in the Roman birth-rate and he looked at all of the new cultures coming into the city and how they were producing much bigger families than the Latins. I believe the Israelites had similar worries, because they were a small and isolated people. These are the roots of the Catholic church. Hello it was in 1968, not 1000 years ago, that Pope Paul VI re-confirmed the catholic's ban on contraception stating it would lower the morality of society, that there would be disregard for the psychological and physical well being of women by males, and that we'd be using our bodies as machines without respect which only comes about by having sex for babies. reservoirdog1
I'm an atheist. But, for believers out there, consider this. If god intended for sex to be ONLY for procreation, rather than for pleasure, why did he make it feel good? Similarly, since orgasms are pleasurable, and since masturbation feels good, is readily available, and at its most basic involves nothing more than the body parts that god gave everybody (including the brain), how could that be sinful? That's kind of like saying that picking one's nose is sinful. I don't think there's anything in the bible that specifically prohibits either birth control or whacking off... Sex is a gift from God, maybe God invent sex for pleasure also, "obey My Commandments, have a rejoice abundant life".
