allina
I know a lot of people say not to take them and that they don't work but there are so many out on the market that I know some of you do or have used them So, be honest, who has used them? Which ones? What do you think? I took gnc burn 60 for a bit but I'm not sure if it did anything, I lost some weight but I was also working out at the time, plus it seems like it's mostly caffeine. I really want to try NV but the label sort of scared me. It seems like it's one of the less safe ones and I'm not trying to kill myself.
tanbark813
I took this stuff called S.A.N. Tight for a while. It definitely gave me increased energy for about 6 hours at a time. And it wasn't like a high dose of caffeine where you feel jittery. It was a nice, sustained level of increased energy. I didn't really feel wired. However, the downside was that it really upped my anxiety levels. It actually took me a while to notice but after being on it for a while I realized that I was reacting much more strongly to things that normally wouldn't bother me. I stopped using it and tried it again a few months later and within a week I noticed the increased anxiety levels so I stopped taking it again.

Thanks Tan, see that scares me, especially since it sounds like it made you emotionally more anxious, not just jittery for a couple hours. I'm not someone who wants to lose 5lbs at any cost, I do care about my health. It seems like all this new stuff keeps coming out (hoodia is the newest thing I think) and i don't know which ones will be pulled off the market after a while like ephedra was because they are killing people. Yeah, that's exactly what it was. Physically, I felt fine, but I didn't like the effect it had on my emotions. It seems like all this new stuff keeps coming out (hoodia is the newest thing I think) and i don't know which ones will be pulled off the market after a while like ephedra was because they are killing people. You definitely want to be careful but just keep in mind that those stories you hear are the exceptions to the rule. A lot of the time it's because someone did something stupid and took more than the recommended dosage while not properly hydrating themselves.

Also true, and i don't have any medical conditions that would make it risky but I want to be at peace about what I take.
LucreziaBorgia
The only diet pill I ever took that I could say worked was the original Dexatrim - now, mind you I can say it technically worked in that it zapped my appetite, I was "up" all the time and I lost a lot of weight when I was taking it but... eventually it started giving me really wicked headaches. Terrible ones. I was on a cycle of Dexatrim and painkillers. One night, I remember getting the worst headache I have ever had followed by a lightheadedness and I started sweating. I had to sit down, and I honestly thought I was going to die. My coworkers were alarmed because of the color I turned - one guy there called me "Data" after the Star Trek Next Generation character because I turned pale and yellow. Needless to say I stopped taking them. Flash forward a few years and I ended up having to get a brain scan for some problems I was having. The scan showed scattered scarring in my brain, places where there were likely 'bleeds'. Now, I have very little doubt in my mind that those pills contributed to those. No way to know for sure, but I can tell you that I haven't messed with diet pills of any kind since. If you do want to go the pill route though, I suggest talking to your doctor about them. I wish I had.

I wish I had. Wow, that's very scary, I'm glad you're okay. Were these the pills that got pulled off the market? I think I'm going to try Hoodia. I dont even know why I have such an urge to take something. I work out and I don't really need to lose weight, maybe just 5lbs for summer.
Totoro
maybe just 5lbs for summer. wait a minute...you live in san francisco. i used to live there...there is no summer! unless you mean september and october... plus everyone dresses like a hippie and no one cares how they look. i dunno...i think diet pills are just a bad idea. they f**k your body up big-time and people usually (always?) gain the weight back. if you really want to lose weight, go to a *healthy* weight-loss program. i.e. weight watchers. i did it and you lose about 1-2 pounds a week (though when you first start). in total i lost about 15 pounds and i have kept it off for almost a year

I think WW isn't for me, I think of it as a tool for older women who need to lose 3o+ lbs.

Totoro
I think WW isn't for me, I think of it as a tool for older women who need to lose 3o+ lbs. That's what I thought too. BUT I was wrong. There are plenty of young people there...even the occasional kid or teen. I'm 28 and when I joined I only "needed" to lose about 10 lbs to put me back in the normal weight range. Actually the person who got me into it was a very slender woman (also my age) that I met last year. Plus you can eat whatever you want as long as you track it and keep within the goal. Sorry to be so pushy, but I really recommend WW over diet pills. It's infinitely healthier and you'll just gain the weight back with pills. There's a reason no (good) doctor will ever tell you to take diet pills--they are hella dangerous;) and just a "band-aid" solution. Good luck...

I know WW is a healthy way of losing weight. But I already am healthy, I'm fit, I workout and I'm well within my target weight. Right now I'm looking for a job and I'm home bored a lot, I'm working out but I still sit around a lot and munch on food out of boredom.

Guest
i took xenadrine and stacker, when they had ephedra. both worked very very well. i lost 20lbs... but i was originally 120lbs (5'5) when i first started, i dont know what i was thinking. i had a 200 cal diet, the pills with ephedra really supress apptite very well, but after 3 months i could tell the pills werent working as well. so i had to take more. i started with 2 pills a day (1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon) towards the end of my diet pill obsession i was up to 12 pills a day. it made me really sick.
