I have also been the woman power walking with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. My family thought it was absurd. I used to have an exercise bike, but when I moved into a much smaller place after my divorce, I gave it away. I have been thinking about getting a real bicycle, too. Few people's willpower will help them go from no exercise to an hour of exercise in a single leap. Instead of an hour, tell yourself, "I will walk for FIVE MINUTES a day, for at least three days this week." Get a routine going with those five minutes, which should be just a walk up and down the block. After two weeks, you'll have set up a routine. Heck, bring the beer along with you. Some days you'll feel like walking more than five minutes. Some days, five minutes will be enough. But after a while, you'll start feeling better. Once you've made five minutes a routine, then you can say, "I will walk for TEN minutes a day." And so on. Also, maybe walking isn't your thing. Consider an exercise bike like a previous poster suggested, or just play a softball game with your kids. All physical activity counts. But I'd suggest that you keep the goals small when you're just getting started. That way, you'll go to bed proud that you did your five minutes, rather than frustrated you didn't even start the full hour. I've found that large successes build on small successes! Thanks Josie, your post was really helpful. I will lower my target time like you said. Then slowly build it up, starting today. It's cold and rainy out.. Ive been wanting to begin working out and keep putting it off. I tell myself Im going to go do it and then when the time comes I would tell myself, oh I'll just do it later or skipping once wont hurt. I ended up not doing anything for the longest time. Then I just decided to go for it one day. I got up and went. Afterwards, i just wondered why i kept putting it off. the first time is the hardest one. after you go you feel better about yourself because you know you are doing something to better yourself. Then after you start, you will begin to learn different things that you enjoy doing and can adapt. Just get the ball rolling! Link to post Share on other sites

The longer you wait, the slower your metabolism becomes and the more difficult it will be to lose the pounds. You are one talented woman. Hi there... I totally agree, better to lose the weight while u are young, believe me, Im 34 now and man o man, its tough to even lose 1 lb... You guys will have lots of fun,and see the scenery flow by.... JUST DO IT!!......Get your ass outside and walk dammit!!......Life is freakin hard,but just freakin do it! You could do that any time and not have to get a babysitter. It sounds like you all drink a lot. What is a walking dvd? and i'd only have A beer before picking up the kids, with about an hour to spare afterwards, so it's not like I was intoxicated while driving. Always get fitted to the frame or else you'll tire out and be uncomfortable on it. Also they have the pull behind baby carriers...it pulls behind the bike,so baby can come along in tow,lol You can get the ,wildwood comfort bike which is a mountain bike with less aggressive tires for road riding as well as trail riding. It also has springs in the seat ,that are better for your ass. I have a Diamondback,Response mountain bike....It's a full fleged comp model with all the weight savings,it's totally bad ass...
