ADT offers a free program called AWARE (Abused Women's Active Response Emergency) which will install and monitor equipment by which an abuse victim can use a neck pendant to autodial a silent alarm to police. Law enforcement officials in each community served set the criteria one must meet to qualify. (Most require a restraining order to be in place, but not all.)

(Mods: I don't work for ADT, so please don't take this as an advertising/sales pitch. I simply found this while trying to help a friend of mine at risk for abuse by her husband, and thought it might be helpful here.)

That is amazingly cool! I could have really used it last summer when things were bad. I haven't seen nor heard from the guy since he got out of jail a few months ago... but if he comes back the girls and I sure could use something like that.

I'll call my VA tomorrow and see if this is availabe in our area, and see if we can get some funding if needed. We really have needed something like this for a long, long time...

I am hoping for eventual GSP alarms as well... if they can make them expensive enough they could make a big change in the lives of people everywhere. Imagine trigging an alarm while a rape is in progress, or a stalking, or other dangerous situation away from home. We might not be able to stop them totally, but if the acts could at least be interrupted and witnessed... prosecution would be a much easier process!

This is awesome!
