Trewsx11
I had this discussion with a buddy of mine the other day and I have come to the conclusion that random strangers meeting eachother in a bar or a nightclub one night and then subsequently "going home together" is largely an urban myth. Of course it happens from time to time, but the occurences are so rare that its almost insignifacnt, unless you're talking about escorts or prostitutes. Because let's face it, most women will not simply go home with a guy they just met at a bar, no matter how drunk they are. Her friends make sure that she doesn't do anything stupid From my observations and experiences and my many nights out at the clubs, pubs, and bars, I have yet to witness this occurence of "hooking up", but then maybe its because I live in Washington, DC and people here tend to be affluent, educated, conservative, and not prone to hop into bed with a stranger after a night of bar hopping. When I did see "hooking up", it was usually two people who have the same circle of friends and have known eachother before, either from work or school Don't you agree with me? alphamale
Bars and niteclubs are big business. They exist to sell you very expensive drinks and charge outrageous covers. They like to project the image of "meeting places" to get men & women in the door. Sure a few people do meet at these places but its usually for casual fun or sex. The bar and niteclub scene is actually once of the worst places to meet the opposite sex, statistically speaking.....but the naive and inexperienced 20 somethings don't know that. Teddy and Jane
Oh, they hook up the same night in DC. It happens in all cities, big and small. People who do it are very discreet about it, so you probably don't see it. I just read an article about how other countries view cheating, and in Japan there are bars where it's a "game" to hook in IN the bar (there are rooms in the bar for that purpose.) The "game" is, if you're married or attached, and you hook up with someone at the bar, it doesn't count as cheating. I found that interesting. Not that this thread was about cheating, but I had just read that article, I believe it was in Marie Claire or something similar.

Yamaha
Hooking up does occur but mainly people just go out to gave fun and to see how many people look at them. It is kind of a ego thing to be in a club with 500 people crammed in a small space and the girls/boys can see how many of the guys/girls they can drive crazy with their sexy clothes. In my experience the more crowed a bar is the more people want to go there. They don't mind waiting to get in because there are that many more people to look at and ogle. No, Marie Claire has a lot of intelligently-written articles about world issues, actually, as well as beauty and fashion. It's not a "rag" like Us or something. Even Vogue is serious business, they can't just make up articles and research.

Star Gazer
I've hooked up with a random guy from a bar before, as have all of my friends. So I really think your characterization of hooking up as being an urban myth is incorrect. In fact, I believe there's a book out on the NYT best seller list that's titled "Hooking Up" about this very concept.

If you are referring to one night stands, or something short lived, then you are incorrect. It happens quite a bit. But if you are referring to something long term and/or monogamous, then you are closer to correct. It rarely does happen, but it does.

knaveman
You must not live near military bases, because I see this all the time with the GI's. Every Friday or Saturday I see random women going "home" with GI's. It's not hard to find in a military town.
