Ok....a personal challenge!

Recommended Posts

Here are three quick tips, which might help:

- stop drinking alcohol because many drinks are high-cal;

- stop drinking soda pop, there's a ton of sugar in the non-diet varieties;

- don't add sugar or milk into coffee and don't drink the fancy coffees.

how about cutting out the Taco Bell, BK's triple whopper w/ cheese and the super size onion rings? Add to it the deep dish meat lovers pizza with double chesse and the DQs butterfinger blizzard

the point being TBF that all three of the items you mentioned have little or no fat. its better to cut out fat calories.

Sugar turns to fat if it's not burned off. If you drink 4 cups of coffee a day and add two tsps of sugar, that's eight tsps of sugar daily. Add soda pop which averages 6 - 10 tsps of sugar per can and it really starts to add up. A friend of mine did the above three items I mentioned and lost ten pounds in a couple of weeks. Not too shabby for pretty much doing nothing.

As for cutting out junk food, that's a given too.

That is true. I'm convinced if sugar soda didn't exist, there would be a lot less overweight teenagers. I'm glad they are working to get rid of soda machines in schools. Some of those kids are chugging 4 20 oz. Mountain Dews a day and that's only during school hours. Sugar soda is the devil.

Tell me about it. lol

I also had a female student who was chubby and she lost a lot of weight within a couple months and looked really good. She said it was because her mom started cooking at home when previously they had eaten fast food every night. So fast food is also the devil.

I don't really like sugar so that's never a problem for me, the alcohol is. I admit I drink a lot, I rarely get drunk but I have a glass of wine or two or a beer or two about 4 days out of the week. Is it really that bad when it comes to a healthy lifestyle? People always say that alcohol is the number one thing to cut out if you want to lose weight/be fit, I don't really want to lose weight but I feel like having a drink in the evening un-do's an entire healthy day.

For example, yesterday, I have a breakfast bar for breakfast before bf and I ran out to do on a pretty decent hike (7.8 miles in the mountains) During the hike I had a home made sandwich and a pear that we packed. For dinner I had sushi. I felt really healthy and fit. Later in the evening we got together for a few beers with friends, I had 3 beers and sort of questioned if I ruined all the healthy stuff from earlier in the day.

Alcohol isn't that bad but you should plan it into your day and try to stick to one or two drinks. Wine & wine spritzers have the least calories.

so lets say you want two bears at the end of the evenings but you are eating 1200 calories plan in the beers so you stay within your calories.

I like to have glass of wine in the evenings myself.

thta being said I heard that alcohol is the main cause of belly fat.

Thank you HG, I feel like you have a good and professional view on these things. I usually have a glass on red wine with dinner, and a couple cold ones on the weekend. Why is it that alcohol causes belly fat? Do some calories cause fat to build up in different areas than others??

ok don't qoute me on this but one is depends on your natural shape if you are a pear or apple than you will have more belly fat. & I thought I read that alcohol & white flour & sugar can lead to belly fat and that it increases your risk of diabetes.

but like I said I am not positive.

oh and thanks :love:

Most beers that I have looked up the info for have about 130-180 calories per 12 ounces...and light beers seem to have about 100-110 calories. A six pack of my favorite beer has about 150% of the calories of a whole loaf of white bread. I don't know, thinking of it like that was enough to get me away from beer.

Wine has lower calories I guess because wine is made from fermented fruit and beer from grain. When I looked on the internet though it was not all that much lower, like 80 calories per glass. Also (sadly) sake has lots of calories...awwww but it is made from rice.

I have read that people have a pattern like pear or apple and tend to put on weight in certain places. But also, certain foods do settle on the belly and refined grain is one. A refined grain is when the fiber is removed and just the sweetest bits are left (like in white bread). Refined sugars make your blood sugar spike, which makes your insulin spike. Insulin pulls sugar from the blood, but then it has to do something with it, so it stores it as fat. So, eating refined sugar is a super efficient way to make lots of fat. Oh joy.

I think that might be the culprit with beer and why it's not called a "wine belly."

My problem is that I can't think of the better foods to eat. I am not as educated as some. I eat wheat bread that has the least amount of carbs in it, and I even eat fish sometimes. I know that protiens are good too, but I get sick of eating the same things all the time. I don't have ideas of different healthy foods to eat. I normally don't drink much. This month I did drink a lot, but for the most part, I go months without drinking at all.

I know that eating more often, healthy foods, small portions is a great way to speed up your metabolism, but what kinds of foods should we be eating...specifically?

I started on this dietary supplement yesterday. It is claimed to be natural with no side effects. well, I haven't felt any side effects from it, and it has suppressed my appetite. I mean, I still eat, but I don't eat a bunch of craved foods. It's like, I just eat to fill the emptyness, but not cuz I'm bored anymore. Today, I wasn't really all that hungry, but I knew I needed to eat. So I couldn't think of what to eat, cuz I wasn't craving anything. I finally picked something, and started eating it. I was able to eat the whole portion, so it didn't trick my mind into thinking I was full when I wasn't. But after, I was satisfied but not stuffed. So far so good on this. I hope that it works for me. I have a big problem with eating food late at night, and I can't seem to stop. :bunny:
