Denomination to another

When I was feeling rather down about my sadness about a situation that I've down in the past and wanted to let go of the past, I thought that the easier way to let go of it was to commit sin in a commitment box to the pastor is is in the next box next to it. But I stopped and think whether if it's an offence to the Christianity denomination to admit sin to the catholic denomination. The question is, is it an offence to your current denomination that you temporarily go to the next?

are you asking if you, a non-Catholic, can go to confession with a Catholic priest?

 

logistically, it wouldn't work because there's a certain procedure or way that takes place in the confessional that only a Catholic (even a lapsed one) would understand, and reconciliation (what confession is now called) is considered one of the seven sacraments recognized by the church.

 

however, that doesn't mean you *can't* contact a Catholic priest (or even a pastor or rabbi) from another church in your area and ask for guidance or just someone to help you resolve issues or bounce things off them (figuratively speaking, of course). Some of the best resolutions for me have come outside the confessional, just talking to the priest about what my concerns are and how they affect me spiritually. That kind of conversation is not under the seal of confession, but still very insightful.

 

I cannot imagine any preacher or rabbi worth his salt would be offended that you sought spiritual guidance outside his church if it meant you found a way to resolve/change your sinful nature. Remember, that's what priests and preachers are in the business for: To get you closer to God and to others.

It's true that evangelists are to get people closer to God. But the question I was trying to ask whether it is a sin for a christian (christian denomination) to go to a catholic priest (catholic denomination) to confess sin (may confess in a confession box).

okay, just checked with a "pro," who says NO, it's not a sin. In fact, you can confess to anyone, he says ... the difference is that a priest can give absolution, which is the sacramental thingy. But, you really need to tell the priest that you're not Catholic, because like I said, there's a whole "formula" to reconciliation and penance that is utterly Catholic.
