funkify
I'm a petite girl with a generally good body. I could probably only lose about 2 -3kg max before I'd start looking too thin. I see girls with amazing bodies at the gym, they are so toned and defined just like the girls in magazines. I was wondering how long it takes going to the gym 4x a week before I start 'looking' like one of those gym girls and not just someone with an ok body? I would be getting a personalised training program for this. Someone once told me it takes about 3 years to get an obvious gym body. Is this true?

If you are already petite and not overweight then it should only take you six months -- especially if you get a personal trainer. Are you active outside of the gym, i.e., golf, tennis, biking, skiing etc.? If you are then that is an added bonus.
IpAncA
Took me 4 months.
208PUA
How long it takes depends greatly on the program your one. At one time I was 260+ lbs. I did a program called Body For Life. In 12 weeks (3 months) I lost 40 lbs of fat, and put on tons of muscle. With someone not as large as I was, I would say you'd have a pretty rockin gym body by the end of those 3 months. Took me a few months longer (I was a pretty big guy after all). Check out http://www.bodyforlife.com and check out the Success Stories. Theres even a yearly contest for $50,000 I believe.
