The Girl At The Karaoke Bar and the Missed Phone Number

Here's an unusual story for you, that leads to my issue.

Last night, I took part in a karaoke contest in at a small club. There was a young lady there that I had an opportunity to meet very briefly before having to leave.

The contest has taken place over a number of weeks--I think there are two more weeks until there is a finals competition, where all the winners from previous weeks will compete.

I sang my heart out, but didn't win. Whatever. It's not the important matter.

While I was singing my song for the competition, the young lady I referred to before walked into the bar with her friend, who was a gay man, which I found out when they sang some karaoke following the contest. My friend and I were chilling at the bar waiting for the karaoke results, when I looked over in the direction where these two were sitting, and I noticed that the gay friend was kind of looking and pointing at me, but in such a way that its was more like he was pointing me out to the girl. The girl looked up, and I noticed this (and I get really shy sometimes about things like this), and I looked away nervously.

My friend wanted to leave, so I went up and told the DJ to cancel my song while my friend waited at the entrance, but while I am leave the stage, the young lady's friend motions me to come up to them. He says, "We walked in towards the end of your song [referring to mine]. You were awesome." We introduced ourselves, but more prominently, he made sure to say "And by the way, this is my friend [the girl]," as if he was introducing me specifically to her.

I found out in the brief conversation we had that they were finalists for the karaoke competition, being held in a few weeks. I told them that I was going to try and compete again, and regardless, I was going to be at the finals, whether I am watching or actually in them. Because my friend was waiting, I had to end the conversation (in a friendly way, of course).

The signs up to this point, I was suspiscious that the girl was checking me out, or the guy she was with was helping her out, or something (the guy WAS NOT hitting on me). While chatting very briefly with the girl, she seemed very friendly and sweet, yet kind of shy. Smiling like she was happy to meet me. She was VERY cute. While walking out, I turned around twice--both times I caught the both of them looking at me.

I was wondering for your input, folks, because I am dense as hell. Would you consider these signs? ^_^;

At this point, I had wished I had more of an opportunity to ask for her number or something (my friend's impatience prevented me from continuing the conversation with her).

In three weeks there is the finals. Both of them will be there, competing. They both know I will be there, either watching or competing. Chances are, if I go to the contest weeks before that point, I will see them again prior to the finals. I would like to chat up this girl a little more if the opportunity presents itself the next time I am at this club. Feel out the situation. Maybe try to ask for a number, or just offer up mine.

What would all you do in my situation?

And yes, I know I am a dork for being in to karaoke contests! :)

Thanks for reading!

next time u see her ask her out to do karaoke with you on a specific day. then get her number. but don't offer up your number, thats lame. if she says no then you have not lost anything and you move on to the next chick

And yes, I know I am a dork for being in to karaoke contests! :)

you'll have to ask TANBARK about that

Signs that she's into you, or signs that you're dense? Big yes to both. ;)

Good luck. :D

Next time you see her, invite her to do a song WITH you.

"Paradise By The Dashboard Light" is probably one of the most FUN duets you can do, especially if you "ham it up" a little.

I've been doing that song for a long time at karaoke, and I've learned to make it a "winner" for me. :)

Of course, having a great singing partner helps...

Where the heck is Ariawoman... lol When we do that song, we ROCK the joint.

A couple of weeks ago, I went out for karaoke with some friends, and I don't remember what I sang, but afterwards, a fairly cute, slightly older woman approached me and invited me to sing it with her...

We did pretty good, I must admit.... her boyfriend thought so!

There are some other good duets you can do, but that one in particular I find to be a lot of fun, and would make a great opening to help you talk to her.....

And just maybe you might find yourself "barely seventeen (or whatever you are) and barely dressed" ;)

I'm right here...

I'd say that you should look forward to the finals and seeing this girl again, and yes this time, make plans or give her your number or something. Sounds to me like she liked you...

Oh and as for the asking someone to sing with you...I'm a singer as TP has mentioned, but usually I turn down the offers or requests for certain songs, not because I dont like the person who asked, but because I dont know the songs! I hate when that happens, as I like to make people happy. But people are always asking me to do the most random artists, and well, I like to do things I know I'll do half way decent on... haha.

Good luck!

Thanks for your replies everyone!

She was really cute and seemed to be really nice--I hope that I can have the opportunity to talk with her again, whether at the finals or before then.

I'm going to try and chat with her for a longer period of time next I see her, and give her my number and/or ask for hers. The timing of my buddy wanting to leave sucked during my last encounter.

I don't think I could do a duet though, although that would be too picture-perfect, lol. I'm pretty shy, and she seemed pretty shy, so I am not too sure how well a duet would work out. Plus, I'd be afraid to goof up a song--I'm awesome with the ones I know, very shakey with ones I'm unsure.

I want to appear confident, you know?

Thanks again!
