johan
This last week I stopped drinking coffee. Not on purpose, but just because I ran out. And the stuff they have at the office is terrible. I only ever drank a couple cups a day. I've never felt caffeine did much for me. I just like how good coffee tastes. I've noticed headaches everyday for the past three days. Starting in the afternoon and lasting until bedtime. I've also noticed that I look better. I think that's because I'm sleeping better. I have no idea whether I'm right. I didn't think I drank enough to have such an effect on me. Anyone else gone cold turkey on coffee and live to tell about it? I don't think I'll go back.
green-eyed beauty
I have to have my 2 or 3 cups of coffee in the morning. I read that coffee can help with preventing type II diabetes. It's just something I don't want to give up. I can't drink it in the afternoon or later or I will have trouble sleeping, as you do.
Touche
Don't you drink tea? Why not switch to some good teas in the morning? I believe (not sure though) that some have less caffeine per cup than coffee. Green tea is good, Earl Grey...etc.

I try to make green tea part of my morning routine... is has antioxidants and it is great tasting. I had mint tea the other day and it was so good
Storyrider
I'd like to cut back a good deal. I think I still need that first cup in the morning but then I'd like to drink green tea the rest of the time. Lots of reasons to cut back. But my lack of sleep is mostly due to LS. Pink Amulet
I hav had coffee twice in my life. 1st time I couldn't sleep for two days, 2nd time I felt so sick I couldn't eat. Caffiene is a drug, and like all drugs, addictions can be easily formed. Best to break a dependency! The only thing your body should need to ingest is food and water, all other cravings are artificial.

KeysGirl07
I tried giving up coffee and drinking green tea. I got migraines and felt miserable - plus the green tea gave me severe heartburn. I went back to coffee and have to say it not only clears my head in the mornings but keeps me regular. It's my only vice I've got and I'm keeping it!
whichwayisup
Yes, the caffeine headache...Drink a cup of coffee and it goes away! I think many coffee drinkers have experienced this. Do what I do, only have one cup a day. And, don't make it at home, GO out to your favourite nearby coffee place and buy it. Coffee always tastes better when someone else makes it. green-eyed beauty
I get this stuff that's Italian that's awesome, so I'd have to say that my coffee I make at home is better. Or if I don't get that from my sister, I get locally roasted, and for some reason it still tastes better when I make it at home than when I buy a cup there. And it's much more economical to make at home.
Author johan
I was making cold-extracted coffee at home. I'd make it by the pound, and then freeze the extract in ice cube trays. Then the cubes were kept in an airtight container in the freezer. Heat one of those cubes and three times as much water to just below boiling in the microwave. There is no coffee that you can buy that tastes better. I was taking two cups to work each day in a thermos. And that's all I would drink. I rarely drank any of the office coffee, because it tasted so bad, and they only had powdered fake creamer. If I did drink some, I'd have decaf. I didn't consider myself addicted to it. I'd go a day or two without it and feel no different. But maybe the headaches were caused by an addiction I didn't know about. I don't want to slope off my consumption. I already quit. I had no headache today, so maybe I'm past it.
green-eyed beauty
I have tried going cold turkey. I might do it again. That is the first I have heard of extracted frozen coffee. So...you make coffee then freeze the coffee grounds? I don't get it. Oh well, it doesn't matter.
Author johan
You mix the ground coffee with water in a special container that has a filter and a plug in the bottom. You can do a full pound all at once. After 12 to 24 hours, you pull the plug. The extract, which is really just coffee concentrate, drains out. That I froze.

monkey00
I've learned to avoid coffee at certain times. And other times im just arrogant and drink it...because it's so damn good! Some weeks ago i had trouble sleeping for days, on those days i drank coffee in my night classes. After cutting it out completely..i was able to sleep...for the time being. Even after cutting out the coffee, i was the same more or less in class...dont think there was any benefit to drinking it, other than keeping me awake all night.

Trialbyfire
Sipping on an expresso, nibbling on a truffle. What a nice thought Storyrider. Coffee is something I can't give up. One cup a day, sometimes two, please.
