Favorite healthy snacks...

Like many others, lots of us are trying to get in shape for summer. I'm looking for some favorite healthy snacks to add to my repertoire to have variety when I get the munchies.

My latest fave healthy snack is a big dollop of fatfree plain yogurt with frozen blueberries, and a splenda. I have been having serious DQ cravings, and this satisfies that ice cream urge.

well, its not that healthy if too abundunt, but I love cherry tomatos. I eat those like candy. and cucumber slices soaked in vinegar and water for something crunchy.

For a not quite healthy treat, try mixing marshmallow fluff and cream cheese (use the light) and using that as a dip; cut some apples into 8ths and dip them lightly. Its sweet and crunchy and great for parties.

Light cottage cheese with pears or peaches in lite syrup, or fresh cut up fruit is good mixed together too.

If you have a good blender or one of those hand-held 'stick' type of mixers, take ice cold skim milk, a packet (or two) of Equal or another sugar substitute, and blend until its thick like a shake. Use a drop of vanilla extract or fat-free Hershey's syrup for other flavors. Its gotta be Ice Cold milk though, and don't make a big glass because it will melt quickly.

Mom used to peel seedless grapes, then freeze them and eat them like hard candy - it would take longer because they are frozen so you won't eat as many and can keep then in the freezer for a long time and just take a handfull when you want something. I think part of her diet was spending so much time peeling each stupid grape though! I guess it would work with them unpeeled.

I got banned from our local Dairy Queen by the owner. I witnessed him assaulting some guy there one night by banging his head up against the building. I went to the court hearing and now the guy who got hurt is suing the owner. The night of court the owner told me not to ever go there...not that really I would too much. I like that place better in winter when they sell Christmas trees. But I like their birthday cakes.

A good snack is frozen grapes. And tomatoes. I love tomatoes but not frozen. But only local ones with salt on them. Zucchini on the grill is good too. Brushed with olive oil and seasoned up...yummy.

I love summer because everything tastes so fresh. Oh...I might be moving to Hawaii. The initials for that state is Hi. How cool is that??

I haven't seen that, but those waffle bowl sundaes are good. I love the chocolate strawberries one. I have the Double Cheeseburger before, topping it with the sundae.

-Fresh cold pineapple (not canned), canteloupe, and honeydew

-strawberries and/or bananas and fat-free Cool-Whip

-a graham cracker dipped in Cool-Whip

-a handful of almonds and cranberries

-Trader Joe's Applesauce (the BEST applesauce--and no sugar added!)

-Polaner's all-fruit jam stirred into plain, no-fat yogurt sprinkled with almonds

-graham cracker, banana, and low-fat/sugar-free vanilla pudding (my version of banana cream pie

-a smoothie made from skim milk, 1/2 banana, 1/2 c plain yogurt, and frozen mango (I also add frozen strawberries, blueberries, and peaches, but the mango and banana alone are good)

-A square of dark chocolate melted over a banana

-Asian or Bosc pears

-fat-free/sugar-free jello and pudding mixed together

-one whole wheat pita bread, sprayed with Pam, seasoned with paprika, salt, red pepper, garlic powder, etc., or the spice of your choice. Cut into triangles and bake at 350-degrees for 15 minutes, for a great low-fat chip.

-Cut a sweet potato into strips or wedges, drizzle a little olive oil over the wedges and mix until covered. Salt and pepper to taste. Bake at 375 for about 25 minutes or until potatoes are softened or baked to taste

-Cut a russett potato into strip sor wedges, drizzle olive oil, mix, and season with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Bake at 375 until browned/crisped/puffed. Yum.

Anyway, these are my healthy snacks that I turn to...they're all quite yummy.

Every time I see one of your posts, why do I get the feeling a guy from NBC is going to walk in the door and ask me to put my pants back on?

I've been eating alot of bowls of cut up cantelope, kiwis, and strawberries for snacks.

Cut up apples and cheeze is a good healthy snack also.

I believe there are 2 varieties of the snacking urge. One is to do with the sugar-craving, and the other is the need to chew.

The yogurt/blueberries/splenda option sounds good for the curbing the sugar craving.

For the chewy part, I am with the other posters who suggested fruit. Or even cereal with skim milk. That would fill you up.

Has anyone ever had Indian Fruit Chaat? You buy this pre made mix from the indian store and then add it to cut up ripe fruit (bananas, mango, grapes, nectarine, orange, etc...). The power mix is made up of salt and chiles and many other spices. The ripe fruit adds the sweetness and the spice mix adds the savoury/spicy part. Its a different taste but quite healthy and tasty. My mouth is watering now :)

So's mine! I love the fruit chaat. The savory/spicy/sour mix makes all the difference.

And when it's mixed with the natural sourness of the fruits, it makes your eyes twitch :)

You actually burn the calories you consume off as you chew it :)

Edamame is a healthy and filling snack. Also a small piece of very dark chocolate with high cocoa, low sugar. I eat a lot of those mini carrots too.

Bananas are best.

I can finish one in less than a minute which is fast enough so that nobody at work will notice.
