wedding ettiquite guestion - special diet of guest

Hi all. I've been invited to my friend's wedding this September. I've only been to one wedding before, and I realize there are a lot of etiquette dos and donts that I'm ignorant about at this point.

 

My question is this - I'm planning on bringing my boyfriend with me to the wedding. He is vegan, as in he eats nothing derived from animals - no meat, fish, eggs, or dairy. Should I let the bride know this? Any meal the caterers would prepare for him would be less expensive, though possibly harder to prepare, than a meat dish, but is it wrong to ask them, or ask my friend, to go to the trouble?
