Cincykid
I was Just wondering if there is anyone who has made it off of methadone by tapering their dose and what Iam to expect from where I am at now. I got hurt at work July 3rd 1997,had severe nerve damage so my nice doctor took me off the vicodein and put me on oxycontin until July 1996,I was up too 240 mg a da and my wife and I decided I would quit them and try a non narcotic, didnt work two days later I was so sick I couldnt move,so a friend of mine said hey go down to the clinic and they say they can have you in and out in 6 months, at this point Im willing too crawl through fire if thats what it took.So I went to the clinic explained myself and was put on 30mg of methadone,I never felt great but ok they kept telling me you need to up your dose,I started gaining weighed I swelled up with water and started haven pitted ademia, was taken off from work and put on disability, ive been there 5 years and im tired,I found they are never going to help me they love my money too much,so in October of 2006 I started droppen from 150 mg of methadone I am now on 24mg a day ive fought my ass off to get here took every vitamin everything from fish oil to st Johns wart and take it still religously.I feel ok and Just called for a stop on my drop until after I get moved next month,I try and sta motivated but man this is a ride I never want to go on again...Lesson well learned:Doctors DONT always know whats right for us:We need to use common sence andresearch everything//////Cincykid
sb129
Hey, good for you CK. Keep it up. I know its tough, I have a family member who has been thru it all. You are doing great- some people never get off methadone, so the fact that you have reduced your dose so significantly is awesome. Good luck!
IfWishesWereHorses
These drugs are a nightmare! I understand their need but in situations of chronic pain you end up exchanging one problem for another. My XSIL took Oxycontin for an accute issue and even in a fairly short period of time she was hooked. She hopped MD's and every pharmacist in town had her flagged. She tried methadone to get off of them but was eventually put in jail for stealing and forging prescriptions. Best of luck to you.
