Soda is BAD for you...Right?

Recommended Posts

I mean, i know it is...I drink Cola with

every dinner. I'd say i have about 2-3

cans a day. One at lunch, One and a half

at dinner. It's bad i know. I'm not a teen

anymore i'm in my early 30's now. I got

to kick this habit.

Since i quit drinking it 4 days ago, i have

been feeling better, but been feeling more

tired and been getting Heartburn a lot.

The tiredness i can understand, but not the Heartburn

Now this is a Coke I know somethin' about!

I looooooooove Coke. Love it. I can literally gain or lose weight through my consumptoin or avoidance of soda alone. (I say this as I'm sipping on one - bad Star, bad!!)

Here's what my trainer told me awhile back: A can of Coke has 150 calories. So you're consuming 300-450 empty calories a day. It only takes an excess of 3,500 calories to gain a pound. Your Coke habit could add up to as much as 40 pounds a year! BAD.

How's about we make a buddy system where we don't drink soda together? :bunny:

Its bad when you drink it that often. For starters, switch to diet. That has no calories, but that much intake of pop everyday is bad. You must limit yourself.

Yeah Star, we should start a Anti-Pop Club...It's

rough. It's rough quitting.

I actually refuse to switch to Diet. It's REGULAR pop

or Nothing, So I choose Nothing. I'm being strong this time around.

I just need to clear out my system a little. I'm not saying

I won't ever drink a coke or a Delicious Dr. Pepper ever

again....But I'm going to make better choices.

and I've read studies where they've said you actually

consume more food when you're a soda junkie. For me,

that's right on the money. I've noticed that over the past

four days, since i've had water at the dinner table, I

haven't eaten as much as I usually do. That soda pop is

a good incentive for me to snack. it's the devil.

Diet is not bad once you get use to it. Try Coke Zero. It has no calories, but it tastes almost the exact same as a regular coke. Diet Dr. pepper is surprisingly good, but water definitely trumps all.

Word.

I switched from regular Coke to diet in college. I like diet now and if I try to drink a regular Coke these days I can't even finish it because I get sick from all the sugar in it.

I did that when I tried to drink a pepsi, six months after I switched to diet. It makes me sick when I see people buy those one liter Pepsis or Mountain Dews.

And KIDNEY STONES, Yikes!!! That scares

the SH*T out of me. But damn it is HARD.

I'm quitting cold turkey with the possibility of

becoming an occasional drinker of Soda, once i've

gotten a little more healthy and lost some pounds.

But i tell ya, it's hard. I'm with Star, It just tastes

so damn good. Ice Cold Coke or Ice Cold Dr. Pepper, it

kills me.

ALSO, I think Diet has more chemicals in it than

regular, doesn't it?? Isn't Diet Worse in terms

of chemicals?

RE:

Heartburn. I don't think I have heard of this one, Georgejungle.

Question: Have you been mixing different foods together?

Sometimes swinging from one extreme sugar filled snack to an extreme salt filled meal, can cause you heartburn. Hence regular foods and desserts should be eaten separately.

As For Soda: Try homemade lemonade. It is delicious, low in calories -depending on the number of sugars, of course -and contains water!

Last but not least: If you think soda is bad for you, then stop drinking it. But don't try to substitute alcohol for soda.

And: YES. Diet Coke is worse. Far worse. Don't fall into the trap they have created for the average consumer.

Moderation. Moderation. Moderation!

TRUE STORY!!! :)

I used to be big in High School - my normal snack routine would be Cheetos and DR. PEPPER/MR. PIBB! Those were my two favorite choice of beverages. I drank soda EVERYDAY.... if not more then once a day.

I decided after I graduated I would cut back on Soda and I DID. I didnt even want to try DIET SODA because if I wanted to cut back...I needed cut back on everything that is soda. All I drank was water, tea and juices (pure orange juice). That was in 2000 when I made that decision to cut back and 7 years later. I havent had a drop of soda. It was EASIER for me to lose weight after cutting back on soda then just cutting calories alone. Overall, I lost about 50 lbs since 2000 and I've kept it off until today. 7 years later.... my weight is stable at 115 :)

Diet soda is just as bad for you as regular soda in many ways. Those diet drinks sweetened with aspartame are particularly bad as aspartame is about the closest thing to poison that the body can tolerate.

i am a gal in my mid forties

i have never been one to drink soda or eat many chips

i have often wondered if the fact that i am still thin and have no cellulite is a factor of no soda/chips over the years

most women i know have cellulite - even young gals

but then again - i do drink a ton of water every day

I used to drink soda ( not diet..Yuck!!!) all the time. Then about a little over a year ago I had a kidney stone and the doctor said I needed to drink more water and less soda. Well since that day I thought I was dying I quit soda cold turkey and it is the best thing I ever did. I feel so much better now. I drink water all the time and YES 2sunny-I do not have any cellulite now and I used to have it on my butt and thighs. I credit it to all the water I drink now.

Oh and those diet drinks or anything with fake sugar or sweetner I avoid. I really believe those fake sweetners are terrible for people. Real sugar for me and I watch my intake.

Citizen Erased

Oh I am addicted to Coke. Up until about 2 years ago I would have to say my soda consumption would be like once every week, if that. Now my boyfriend and I go through a 1 litre bottle in sometimes less then 2 days. :o

I know I have put on weight since then because of it, and I definitely agree that it makes you eat junk food more.... but I have never been a big water drinker, more then one or two glasses a day makes me ill and coke tastes so damn good.

I like diet coke so I guess I should switch to that... now to convert my bf is another thing
