Star Gazer
I don't think I've ever had heartburn before, so I'm not sure what it feels like/what the symptoms are. Can you describe what it feels like? Is it actually a burning feeling? I feel like I have something stuck in my esophagus, or like behind my sternum. Hard to explain, but it's been happening at night on occassion for the past month or so. Does it ever feel like that? ??
Storyrider
Yeah, it can feel like a pressure, like you need to burp but can't. Really bad heartburn or reflux feels like you've got orange juice coming up from your stomach into your throat (acidy).
Storyrider
It feels like your heart's on fire. Pretty much like being in love, really. So you're saying love is like the aftermath of bad Mexican food?
Storyrider
The butterflies don't last forever. Just remember that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Oh, and bad Mexican food conquers all. Perhaps tomorrow, Star will tell us what she ate. I have a feeling she is talking about real heartburn, not a reaction to getting "the whole enchilada" from a certain tb. Anyway, last night I made a chicken sandwich and had some new potatoes. Pretty bland, actually. I haven't noticed it happening with any particular type of food, just the timing of it. It's always at night, but not when I'm laying down...just relaxing on the couch or whatnot. It feels like pressure, or like there's a huge horsepill stuck in my esophagus somewhere between my throat and breastbone. I feel like I need to burp, and I do, but they're like itty bitty teeny weeny little bits of air, which exacerbates that "something is stuck!" feeling. Last night was the worst it's ever been - drove me CRAZY!
Storyrider
I would see a doctor. It sounds like acid reflux, but you never can tell. Yes, *agic*ands posts are targeted for ongoing, automatic delete it seems. .
doiask42much
My bf gets it a lot (I have never had it) and described the burpy feeling and sour liquid coming back up like Storyrider said, but the type of food you ate doesn't sound like it would cause that, nor the amount, I am assuming, as you look to be fairly slim. I've read that it's mostly caused by greasy, spicy, heavy food and garlic and onions and by eating too large a meal and lying down shortly after eating. Have you tried taking anything for it? Like acid reducer tablets or pink bismuth? If those things don't work, you could at least rule heartburn out. And if they do, you might feel better!
Art_Critic
Pound a few Rolaids ( as a diagnose method ) before bed and see if it gets better.. 3-4 should do it. If it helps then start changing what you eat around.. I never used to get heart burn .. now even PopTarts (cinnamon ) gives it too me and I have to watch some foods.. Author Star Gazer
I don't have any acidy stuff... Hmm. I hate going to the doctor.
