Repent & Forgive

Recommended Posts

Ezekiel

18:21 "If someone evil stops sinning and keeps my laws, if he does what is right and good, he will not die; he will certainly live.

18:22 All his sins will be forgiven, and he will live, because he did what is right.

18:23 Do you think I enjoy seeing evil people die?" asks the Sovereign LORD. "No, I would rather see them repent and live."

18:30 "Now I, the Sovereign LORD, am telling you Israelites that I will judge each of you by what you have done. Turn away from all the evil you are doing, and don't let your sin destroy you.

18:31 Give up all the evil you have been doing, and get yourselves new minds and hearts. Why do you Israelites want to die?

18:32 (*)I do not want anyone to die," says the Sovereign LORD. "Turn away from your sins and live."

Luke

5:30 (*)Some Pharisees and some teachers of the Law who belonged to their group complained to Jesus' disciples. "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and other outcasts?" they asked.

5:31 Jesus answered them, "People who are well do not need a doctor, but only those who are sick.

5:32 I have not come to call respectable people to repent, but outcasts."

15:7 In the same way, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine respectable people who do not need to repent.

5:30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from death, after you had killed him by nailing him to a cross.

5:31 God raised him to his right side as Leader and Savior, to give the people of Israel the opportunity to repent and have their sins forgiven.

5:32 We are witnesses to these things-we and the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to those who obey him."

Ok - let's say I have a run of really bad luck, flip and shoot 100 nice, respectable people in a shopping mall...then feel so genuinely bad about it immediately afterwards that I turn the gun on my own head and shoot.

I reach the heavenly gates and find that I have a court hearing to determine whether I should be allowed to stay. Beside me are the 100 people I murdered. To the left of heaven, wide-eyed and kindly looking angels are weeping with joy about the fact that I really do feel bad about killing all those people. They can't wait to be my friend and are toasting me with champagne for repenting so honestly.

To the right of heaven, angry looking angels are demanding my immediate descent to hell for robbing all those people of their lives. They are urging the court to promptly dispatch me to hell and let all the heavenly bodies focus their attention and efforts on counselling and rehabilitating the 100 souls I murdered.

In the middle, confused looking angels want to shake my hand for genuinely feeling bad about my massacre in the mall....but tell me that in their view although I genuinely repented, I then committed another sin by shooting myself in the head. It was too speedy a death for me, in my mortal form, to repent for the suicide. They're not entirely sure what should happen to me, but are going to vote that I spend 1000 years in limbo while they make up their minds.

Which group are you in?

I cannot answer your question. God is the only one who can judge who go to heaven or hell. God is the one who knows people's heart, if God judges, the judgement is ultimate fair. People have the chance to be exposed to the words of God, those who belong to God will choose

We believers just follow what God told us. Repent and sin no more. Nobody can fool God. God knows everything, even those deeds did in secret. After we heartly repent and accept Jesus Christ as our saviour, HE will send Holy Spirit to us as the seal. Fear of Lord is the beginning of wisdom:love:

Repentance is saving and healing, peace will follow after repentance.

lonelybird, don't get offended but your posts really annoy me.

You type a lot, but you don't make a lot of sense.

It's usually a lot of dictations from the bible together with some platitudes.

That doesn't have to be 'wrong' but a lot of the time people ask a critical question about religion and your type of posting doesn't answer those questions.

Try to form more of an answer instead of romantic phrases.

true repentence is more than just saying "sorry" – it deals with making reparation to the one(s) hurt.

and it's "letting His heart become your heart" … allowing God to work within and through you so that you experience true change, not just mumble a couple of words in hopes of avoiding trouble!

as lonelybird points out, God knows our hearts, and responds accordingly ...

59:9 The people say, "Now we know why God does not save us from those who oppress us. We hope for light to walk by, but there is only darkness,

59:10 and we grope about like blind people. We stumble at noon, as if it were night, as if we were in the dark world of the dead.

59:11 We are frightened and distressed. We long for God to save us from oppression and wrong, but nothing happens.

59:12 " LORD, our crimes against you are many. Our sins accuse us. We are well aware of them all.

59:13 We have rebelled against you, rejected you, and refused to follow you. We have oppressed others and turned away from you. Our thoughts are false; our words are lies.

59:14 Justice is driven away, and right cannot come near. Truth stumbles in the public square, and honesty finds no place there.

59:15 There is so little honesty that those who stop doing evil find themselves the victims of crime." The LORD has seen this, and he is displeased that there is no justice.

59:16 (*)He is astonished to see that there is no one to help the oppressed. So he will use his own power to rescue them and to win the victory.

59:17 (*)He will wear justice like a coat of armor and saving power like a helmet. He will clothe himself with the strong desire to set things right and to punish and avenge the wrongs that people suffer.

59:18 He will punish his enemies according to what they have done, even those who live in distant lands.

59:19 From east to west everyone will fear him and his great power. He will come like a rushing river, like a strong wind.

59:20 (*)The LORD says to his people, "I will come to Jerusalem to defend you and to save all of you that turn from your sins.

59:21 And I make a covenant with you: I have given you my power and my teachings to be yours forever, and from now on you are to obey me and teach your children and your descendants to obey me for all time to come."

Ya, what he said...

That is the thing really... Religion reduces your perspective to rationally think about things as you always have a bias to your beliefs. Religion as a whole serves as a way of dumbing down and controlling the masses.

So there is no need to be able to think for yourself once you know how to copy and paste from the bible.

In a sense, sure it is. A human child requires a lot of caring and resources to develop into an adult. "Love" is an evolved process that helps to bind people together to facilitate the more efficient and successful raising of children. There is of course different kinds of love for example, parent-child love, love of a partner, love of a family. But if you look at this more objectively these kinds of love help a small group of people to be more successful as a whole.

Love feels good because it plays into the reward system of the brain where we receive dopamine. After being rewarded we then go out and try to find what ever it was that did that again. It can become like an addiction and get out of control, but there is a reason why the system is there. You have to eat to live, but you can also eat too much and shorten your life.

It is just like with food. Sugar and fat are pure energy for us so we have evolved to interrupt these things as pleasurable, meaning they taste good. There are many other sources of energy in the world which other animals have evolved to use. Cows are able to break down cellulose for their energy so a ball of cotton is like sugar to a cow. Humans can not use cellulose for energy and how does a ball of cotton taste?

That's not romantic at all, hopefully when you talk to your gf you don't use this "brain reward system and cow talking"

Umm... Ok... Why does an explanation of love have to be romantic? You asked for a rational explanation of love and you got one.
