So I've never waxed before. I'm a wax virgin!

So I followed the directions to a tee. My leg hairs are too short so I went right for the gusto! Planted that sucker on my bikini line, rubbed it down, ripped it off...and....

You go clockwise with your right hand, and counter clockwise with your left hand. Wax on, wax off... wax on, wax off. Do that for a while, and we'll see about the next step.

I've found that those products that are just pots of wax with no fabric strips work better. I am not sure what type you were using. The one I have is called Surgi-Wax Brazilian. Heh. You nuke the container for a few seconds, use this little wooden spatula, apply it to the area, then the wax hardens, and when you pull it off all the hairs stuck to and embedded inside it come with it. Sure, it hurts, but it works pretty well.

I had really lousy results with the fabric strips. Also, make sure not to do it near your period, as it will hurt more. Being a bit tipsy helps take the edge off too. Hope that helps! :)

Okay, past waxing baggage tagged and checked. I have taken this flight so listen to me.

My advice, and I feel strongly on this. Don't wax. Especially with a take home product. Super especially .....not there.

I played with this for a while and it caused some long term problems. I tried it on my legs and it was a huge mistake. It resulted (for me I think my 3rd waxing) ingrown hairs and ultimately follicalitis (sp?). Although I stopped the waxing the damage to my hair follicles was permanent. I had to get laser hair removal treatments to repair ...what I did by waxing. The 5-10 dark hairs I didn't like resulted in this huge unneccessary, unsightly drama and expense. Thankfully, my legs are once again normal, but there are a few scars (attibuted to the waxing not the laser).

I would just suggest going for the laser thing if you want the hair gone. Yes, it is expensive, yes it can take anywhere from 3-6 treatments. However, it is money better spent in the long run. I learned the hard way. Some places even offer a package deal. Just research be smart about it, know the type of laser and your skin type and feel good about it.

I live near the beach and do know a woman who had her bikini area lasered. She loved it. I am considering it myself, one day.

I agree with underpants. Don't do it at home. Get some professional help for sensitive areas. It lasts quite awhile.

I get my bikini wax done by a professional. It's fast, clean, effective and you have someone to scream profanities at in your agony. No brainer.

Hey thanks for the insights. I know someone who does sugaring, and know people who have gone to her for brazilian jobs so I might look into that. Not sure how awkward that would be since we work together!

I bought the kind that's on paper strips that you warm between your hands for 5 seconds...veet.

I don't think I can afford laser, or at least it's not a priority. I don't mind shaving my legs, it's just the bikini area (the full area) I'd like to not have to shave so often so a wax or something would be nice for summer anyway. And we have very short summers where I live.

I agree. Get it done professionally.

I tried at home and it was horrible. I did it twice and that was it. I need someone else to pull.

I had a Brazilian done professionally before and found that the only difference was that it was quicker and more expensive than doing it myself. Maybe I just have been lucky to suffer no adverse effects? Slightly less anxiety too, perhaps, although the lady who did it was kind of weird and puzzled as to why I would want all of it removed. She told me in a stern German accent that it was "not sexy" and would make me look "like a baby doll." Hehehe.

Not me.

I’m still suffering PTS from the first and LAST home wax I gave myself twenty years ago. Still have three scars on my right leg to commemorate the whole horrible ordeal.

I can’t even light a candle anymore without breaking into a sweat.

Maybe I will try one more time on an inconspicuous spot. it's not like I'm going to return it to the store.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? I can handle the ouch and I have lots of wine on hand!
