wookinpanub
I don't know if this really fits into the Self-Improvement and Personal Well-Being section, but it definitely helped my well-being, lol. Anyway, this past Thursday I just got back from the most random, most fun trip of my life to Nepal. It wasn't entirely random and spontaneous but it was as much so as I could make it. I told my mom like three weeks ago that I was going to hop on a plane to some place in the world, as usual she didn't believe it and shrugged it off. So I got into contact with an air courier company I had registered with and asked what the next available trip they had was. Turns out it was to Nepal on last wednesday (not this last one but the one before it). They said since it was so close to the time of departure that they could give me a round trip ticket for 400 so I took it. I met the guy in philly at 8 am on wednesday and picked up the paperwork. I left my mom a note telling her I was on my way to nepal and that I would be back in two weeks at most. left a few hours later and had a transfer in london and then another in qatar. Unfortunately, they were quick transfers so I couldn't go walk around. I would have loved to have seen qatar. and then it was direct to kathmandu (well the airport was a little bit outside of kathmandu). switched some currency and took a cab into the city. im not gonna lie, i was pretty freaked out cuz apparently there is a maoist uprising going on throughout the country and just being in such a foreign place. but luckily i didnt have any problems. apparently, tourists are generally left alone in nepal, which i found out afterwards but was still cool to learn. i got into the city and found the hostel i had looked up before i left. luckily there were tons of rooms open. it wasn't the nicest place ever, but it was pretty clean. there were a bunch of backpackers from england staying there at the same time i was and we all hung out. one of them spoke nepali and hindi, which was kind of random but very helpful to all of us. so we went sight seeing and i got to see some pretty remarkable things. the best of which i thought was durbar square. they left a day ahead of me so i just liked walked the safe parts of the city the last day. next morning i got a cab to the airport and took a like 26 hour flight home. surprisingly, my mom wasn't mad at all. i told her i was going to do it and she didn't ever actually say no, so she couldn't get mad anyway. i lost my summer job to do this cuz i didnt call off, but its cool i wanted to quit it anyway. every second i was there i wanted to kill myself. now i am going to wait tables and love it. best idea and best trip of my life! knaveman
You know, I don't even know you but I'm proud of you. That is the sort of thing I have always wanted to do, but now days the mortgage and unstable job make it hard. I'm glad it went well and you had fun. I'm proud and jealous. Mostly jealous. I wish I could do more stuff like that.

JeanQueen
Man, if I had the funds to do it I'd be on a plane to anywhere right now. It's so great that you could just shake up your life like that. I envy you more than you will ever know
amerikajin
Nice one, bud. You can't always quit your job and go running off into the sunset, but if you're young, can afford it, don't have a lot of responsibility yet and aren't really tied to a job, I think it's an excellent idea. More people should do what you did and just live life, taking nothing for granted. You've got memories - forever.
