I'm 35 this week and I think I'm having a kind of mini mid-life crisis. I don't know that I've achieved that much with my life. I wasted a lot of time hanging out with loser friends, I missed opportunities, I was lazy and thought there would be plenty of time later. Now it is later and I've done nothing.

Is this normal? Can anyone here say they're totally happy with what they've done with their lives and, if so, how old are you?

Yes, it's normal.

I'm 36 years old. I've been pretty happy with most of my life, accomplishments, jobs, experiences - UNTIL around late 2003 into early 2004 I realized I have panic and anxiety attacks. Since then life has been not so peachy...Even with the help of therapy, doing CBT, I still am not where I should be in life. I feel like I've taken steps backwards - BUT - One thing my therapist told me so I don't beat up on myself or feel bad is, things are exactly as they're supposed to be.

You still are young, and have tons of time to DO. What can you do to improve your life? Then take it from there...

I wasted a lot of time hanging out with loser friends,

But you've only been on LoveShack for a little over a year, so it's not that bad.

Use this introspective period as an incentive to incentivate yourself. Better that you thought seriously about what you want to do with your life now, rather than drift right on through to 40, or 50, or 60.

Some famous dude said that the unexamined life is not worth living. Sure, he's dead now, but you get the point. Life is like sex, you're either doing it, or thinking about doing it. Try not to think too much, or you'll get frustrated.

I believe the overexamined life is not worth living.Life is not as much fun when overscrutinized.

I'm 56 with two beautiful kids, a very successful career and the single life. I'm happy, healthy and free.

When work and sex (eros) are both operating on all cylinders, and you have your health, life is good. :)

I think what you are going through sounds very normal to me.

You are at an age where you are looking back and looking forward, and figuring out just who you are and what you want in the process.

Perhaps, attempting to visualize and try on different outcomes for yourself. It is all good and your ability to see this is also good. I don't think of it as a crisis, rather growing pains.

I wish you a good jouney, and hope you discover what you want to come and are able to embrace what should come. Also being mindful of what to let go of.

Regards,

Unders

I also think this is normal when you get into your 30's. For me I have been in a neutral gear for the last 5 years, I seem to make progress, lose progress try this, try that but I always seem to come back to a certain point in my life. I compare it to needing a compass to find my direction. I will not say that I am totally unhappy at where I am in my life, it is just that I don't know if this is WHERE I should be.

I remember in my twenties I never worried about too much, I did have some dark times but mostly I felt indestructible and having the will to take on the world. As I got older and lost a few battles I find it harder all the time to get this feeling back.

I think as others have implied a person should not worry or questions their life so much but try to live in the moment and enjoy it. For myself I decided the other day that I am going to try something risky and that could cause me alot of pain but I am tired of being in neutral waiting for something to happen. You could spend your whole life waiting, worrying, thinking. As they say sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns. It is time to shake things up some and see what falls out of the tree.

Well, I haven't yet been elected President, haven't won a single Grand Slam tournament AND Bill Gates still has more money than I do. Who could be happy under those circumstances  ?

And yet, I've got a good marriage, 4 wonderful kids (two now thru college  ), a successful career and am generally regarded as a good man. It's all a question of perspective :)
