Author IpAncA
They don't have names. Their just called "vitamin water." There's a bunch of flavors that are suppost to help in certain areas like fitness, relaxing, ect...
doiask42much
I think those things are a marketing ploy and they often contain a fair amount of sugar. Things I've heard/read always recommend drinking plain old water over sports drinks or vitamin water. That said, I have occasionally caved in and bought one, usually when hung over, in tandem with a giant breakfast burrito, and I felt much better. I attribute the restorative powers to the bacon, cheese, potatoes and hot sauce, though, not the vitamin water. It just helps my "medicine" go down. My bf loves these drinks and buys them often, and I always end up drinking them, even though I don't agree with them and consider them a waste of money. I view them as mostly light refreshment with a possible placebo effect. They do hydrate you somewhat, and hydration is always good, but you could get that from water, and your diet should be providing you with vitamins. I guess it's also up in the air as to how much of what's in the drink is ABSORBED and used by your body, even if the drink claims to contain 1000% of the RDA of a given nutrient. Products can claim to contain quantities of ingredients if they do (though some still lie but haven't yet been caught--Trimspa did this), but as to whether they affect your body and its function, they usually don't/can't claim that at all. Generally, the FDA/FTC would catch up with them and slap them with a heavy fine.
doiask42much
Actually, I guess drinks are more leniently policed than supplements, since they are in no way on par with Rx drugs. So strike those last two sentences! I guess generally speaking, if you are really run down, no magic elixir is going to make you feel revived. Even stimulants and/or drugs that boost you temporarily are doing so artificially and you will suffer a crash later on. The only real way to revive yourself is to rest and get enough fluids and healthy food, much like when you are sick.

There's a bunch of flavors that are suppost to help in certain areas like fitness, relaxing, ect... Thats so funny. Before now I have never heard of or have seen those, but I just got back from 7-11 and there they were. I proudly walked past them and on to the slurpee machine.

doiask42much
Strange they are "under the radar" for some people. They are freaking EVERYWHERE in SoCAl. I guess people around here buy into hype and gimmicks?
Author IpAncA
Thats so funny. Before now I have never heard of or have seen those, but I just got back from 7-11 and there they were. I proudly walked past them and on to the slurpee machine. I had one yesterday from Dairy Queen (Kiwi-Strawberry). It was calling me. I knew they were around and spotted them at Meijers the other day and wondered why people were so into these. So I bought one. Yeah I agree.
alphamale
Does anyone drink these and if so do they work or what? hahaha these drinks are one of the biggest scams next to the credit card industry. What do you pay, like $3 per bottle? Well, you'll urinate it all away within a few hours including all the nutrients and supplements. Its a total scam, just maintain a healthy and balanced diet. doiask42much
Alpha, I tend to agree. I can't say I don't enjoy drinking them occasionally though.

Lady Aurora
I love them! I was tickled when my grocery started carrying the larger 32oz sizes, and a good number of flavors. I drink a lot of water (try to anyway, rather than soda) but I get sick of the non-taste of water. Gatorade, fruit punch and all the copy cats are just too heavy and have too much sugar. VW does have some sugar, but not as much and it is real sugar, not the high fructose corn syrup crap. I don't drink them as a substitute for vitamins, but rather as a healthier alternative to soda. Coca-Cola recently bought out the company that makes VW, which is good news IMO. With their marketing and distribution, that means it will be easier to get and likely drive the price down. ShoeGirl
I love vitaminwater, I drink it all the time. I think that they do help, I drink the revive one (fruit punch) almost every morning and I rarely feel like I need my usual coffee. I really like them because they are not high in sugar and are low in calories too. They also just came out with vitaminenergy which is an energy drink but with less sugar and calories than other energy drinks. Go to glaceau.com and you can see what is in all of their products. I heard that there was a study about the levels of certain vitamins in people when they took a multi-vitamin pill each day versus drinking the lemonade flavor of vitaminwater (2 bottles a day I think) and they had the same effect. Coca-Cola recently bought out the company that makes VW, which is good news IMO. With their marketing and distribution, that means it will be easier to get and likely drive the price down. The guy who owned Glaceau (the company who makes vitaminwater, smartwater, fruitwater and vitaminenergy) is working with Coca-Cola and is continuing to be in control of the product for 3 years. Glaceau will continue to distribute their products out of New York at least until Coca-Cola is fully in control of the company. Prices have already dropped on bottles of vitaminwater but not because Coca-Cola bought the company because the product sales has increased by almost 400% in the last 6 months.
