IfWishesWereHorses
U77, Are you somewhat hypoglycemic? Do eat alot of other refined sugars or is the coke your main source? I was addicted to coca cola like you are saying, its all that I drank, I hate anytype of artificiall sweetener. OTHER than the coke I ate very little period and had no other scource of simple sugars. I don't even like sweets. I did find that I had to replace the caffine when I went cold turkey on the coke but since I drink black coffee and unsweet tea anyway, I just switched to them. Still every now and then I'll have a coke as a treat (sometimes a treatment for a hangover:p) but after the second sip I can't stomach it, it's just too sweet!! What I found out was that I was using the coke as a sugar source as a quick fix to the hypoglycemia. It was the only one I could handle. I went on a high protien diet and ate only complex carbs and NEVER had a problem with they hypoglycemia, unless I drink alcohol.
Star Gazer
Yes, I am addicted. Really addicted. However, my preference is for Coke from McDonalds - they seem to have the best soda-to-syrup ratio. IWWH - that's interesting re: the hypoglycemia. My mom is, so is my grammy. Perhaps I should look into that... Hmm.
directx
I am pretty good at shedding food addictions (I think). Was addicted to soda too. But I had to do something. I do a slow transition. Fortunatley, here, we have free soda. Its fortunate because I was able to start half-half mixing Coke and Diet Coke. Then each day I would either stay the same or progress the diet coke mix. Eventually I was on pure diet coke. "Well, you are still on coke!" you say. For me, diet coke doesnt taste the good, but it fit the bill for the addiction. I then bought these packets where you pour into carbonated water (or regular water) for taste. These fit the bill because it tasted so much better and still calorie free. So again I start slowly: 2 glasses of DC, 1 glass of flavored soda water. Then it progress to flavored soda water. Now I drink green tea and water. But I still have a DC on occaision, so Im not WANTING because of restriction! But I dont really care for it. I dont miss sugar drinks AT ALL
crzyblndstar
My boyfriend is addicted to coca-cola. He drinks at least a 12-pack a day. He never goes with out one. Even if we are just running to the store real quick, he has to have one in the car with him. I don't think his problem is not enough sugar tho. He loves sweets. That is all that he eats is junk food. It is actually kind of frightening, b/c I know he can't possibly be healthy. If you find something that works for you, let me know so I can pass it on to him.
Star Gazer
My boyfriend is addicted to coca-cola. He drinks at least a 12-pack a day. I don't mean to be insulting, but how much does he weigh? He's drinking 18,000 calories a day! That certainly isn't healthy...

Not insulted at all. Funny enough, he doesn't weigh that much. He could stand to lose about 10 to 15 pounds but he is by no means, overweight. He doesn't really eat much at all, its just when he does eat, it is all crap. He is happy with eating ding dongs and cinnamon rolls for breakfast. He also doesn't ever exercise. The only exercise he gets is mowing the lawn. Quite frankly, it makes me sick. You know d*mn well if most females ate like that, someone would probably have to use a crane to get us out of the house. But, I am worried about him, b/c I do agree that his body cannot be healthy at all. The doctor already told him to quit eating so much fatty foods b/c his cholestoral is too high. He is only 31. I think he is just a heart attack waiting to happen. He won't listen tho. What can I do?

I'm not sure what you can do, he's gotta want to become healthy on his own. Are you the grocery shopper of the household? You can influence what he eats by making better choices at the grocery store - Diet Coke, veggies, etc. ?? Just an idea.
crzyblndstar
We both do the grocery shopping. And, I do drink diet coke and he will not have anything to do with it. He is such a picky eater, it is unbelievable. I do cook healthy food for me and my son, but he just chooses to eat other stuff. I have gotten him to start drinking a little water and some gatorade every once in a while. But, nothing like he should. And, trust me. It is hard keeping the weight off living with someone like this. There are constantly cookies and candy in the house. I have to work out everyday just to get rid of what I can't resist in the house. The caffeine and sugar stimulate certain parts of the brain my pastor likes to call “Satan Cells” which persuade wrongdoing in common sinners. Discontinue it’s use immediately and pray for forgiveness.
underpants
Well, I wouldn't go that far..... Yea, it sounds as though you have a liking to the sugar and caffeine. Sometimes doing without can cause head aches, lethargy, and an irratated feeling. Directx made a good suggestion. I used to in college, love some cokes as they helped me cram for exams. I still love some diet cokes, for the caffeine. After the change from coke to dc, I can't drink a regular coke, and even the splenda diet coke taste too much like regular for me. All sodas are not the healthiest option, but in moderation is probably okay. I think it would take you about 2-3 weeks to transition over to something else, or at least learn to not be too dependent on a coke. I sometimes just think I like to burp, as I like to on occasion flavor seltzer water with cranberry juice. Mix it up a bit, and give yourself a couple of weeks. Make yourself drink a glass of water instead on occasion. I just realized I have no carbonated beverages (or bibles) in my house at the moment, and I will be okay. portableversion
alot of the sodas are and coffee too Had a friend who quit mountain dew and went through some withdrawls like headaches. I feel happier when I drink coffee I call it liquid sunshine or sunshine on a cloudy day If your emotions are connected to a substance you have to intake you have an addiction or are likely of being addicted Good thing though I think quitting caffeine is much easier to quit than nicotene though staying off could be equally hard I really just like hot beverages tea cocoa whatever so if i run out of coffee i switch to tea i have herbal caffeine free stuff and after 2 or 3 days I will have a pounding headache and feel somewhat depressed. But I wont know why last time i went through this I didnt even want coffee but wifey got me some and made me drink it and presto chango I was cured!!! But if i put down the smokes I know I wanna smoke.
love necessity
RAISED HAND** OH.OH..I can't relate. I use to drink like 2 2 liters of Pepsi on a daily basis, but I cut down when I quit smoking. Do you smoke? If so, you may not in fact be addicted to Coke, but instead need it when you smokey? If you're drinking that much coke on a daily basis, you should go get checked for diabetes like once a month. Just a suggestion. You're putting way too much sugar into your body in one day, because you also get sugars from starchy food like pizza, breads, noodles, and etc. Maybe you should replace it with like flavored H2O?? Just a thought..Like I said, that's way to much simple sugar. =)
Trialbyfire
I think I need an addiction. Maybe I'll start intravenously injecting Coca-cola. It might help.
Nemo
I think I need an addiction. Maybe I'll start intravenously injecting Coca-cola. It might help. Injecting black stuff into your body is overrated. Why don't you try something orange, instead.
Trialbyfire
Injecting black stuff into your body is overrated. Why don't you try something orange, instead. I've recently acquired an allergy to the colour orange so no thanks. Coca-cola would be far more fulfilling with it's high sugar and caffeine content. There's a limitless supply, it's cheap and technically, at hand.
amerikajin
This is gonna sound really stupid but I think I am addicted to coca-cola, I drink at least 2ltrs a day and get really upset and angry if someone else drinks it I have even gone out in the middle of the night and walked to the all night garage because i have needed cola Is it possible to be addicted to coca-cola??? should i see someone about it??? yep i'm crazy i know!!! anyone else feel this way??????:o Definitely possible to be addicted to coca-cola or any type of cola: I once used to be quite addicted to Dr. Pepper. I used to have like 6 a day, which is definitely NOT good for your health in the long-run. It's not so much that coke itself utterly destroys your body, but it's definitely not good for you, and it's bad in that it fills you up and makes it less likely that you'll want water or juice. It's got a lot of bad calorie content, which is why you should really have no more than 2 a day, and preferably fewer. And a lot of medical experts warn that it can be disruptive to your gastrointestinal system, and even increase the risk of kidney stones. Not to mention that it can increase trips to the dentist, too... It's the combination of sugar, syrup and caffeine that makes it addictive. Think of cola as a type of poor-man's energy drink. What's especially rough about cola is that the sugar causes you to crash harder than you do if you're on coffee or tea, which I've switched to in recent years. I would just start switching to a cup of joe or perhaps some hot tea in the morning and see if that works. Trust me, the caffeine content will make you back off of the cola later in the day. Yamaha
I know how you feel and it is very easy to get addicted to cola's and any drink that has caffeine. If you decide to ween yourself off of the Coke you will get some headaches from the caffeine with drawl so be prepared for this side effect. Try buying the flavored water or put a slice of lemon in your water to help flavor it up.
