blind_otter
So I haven't been to my job in a while. Today is the second day in a row that I've taken off because of migraines and random illnesses. Methinks that the reason I'm suddenly getting migraine attacks is because this job sucks and although I've only been working there a little over 2 months, it's time to find a new job. Everyone will be disappointed in me. I thought I had found some stability in my life.
laRubiaBonita
egh.... let them be disappointed..... it's not like anyone but you really has to deal with all the physical and mental draining that a suck-arse job does to one. i think it is a good thing that you can recognize this before it snowballs into anything worse... like depression or just taking off way too much. better to leave when you still have some gumption. whichwayisup
Your body is telling you something, so listen to it. Trust me, once you start getting migraines and it's work related, that's a sign to GO! Your health is so important. You are so smart and outgoing B_O, you'll find a better job suited for you, don't worry!
EnigmaXOXO
Everyone will be disappointed in me. Crap, like that’s something new when it comes to your family. Screw ‘em. I’m with LB and WW on this one too. You’ve already come a long way, and you have to keep going forward until you find a place where you can truly be happy, comfortable and content. Personally, I’d be even sadder to see you slip back to that dark place where you once were because you couldn’t cope with the depression. One of the many things I’ve always admired about your spirit was your tenacity and dogged determination to stay proactive ... even if that means you have to keep moving. And sometimes being restless can be a far better option than allowing yourself to become stagnate and wither away slowly. Your in a good place, Otter, where you don’t have to be responsible to anyone except yourself, right now. If ever there was a time for freedom of choice, expanding your horizons, and self discovery ... It’s now! Besides, landing jobs (however boring and mundane they turn out to be) has never seemed to be much of an obstacle for you.
Author blind_otter
Aw, thanks for the support. I sure did miss you guys. That's one of the problems with my job. Well, one of the many. Pros: 1. I get paid well to be trained 2. There is potential for advancement and lots to learn and there is potential to have a much higher salary if I stick with it. 3. I interact with a lot of people on a daily basis 4. The people I work with are all very nice 5. If I stick with the job for a year I'll be able to go part-time and go back to school. 6. If I stick with the job for longer, a few years, I get a discount on LASIK or PRK eye surgery to correct my myopia. Cons: 1. I only get a half hour lunch. Just enough time to cram food into my mouth, but not enough time to run an errand or God Forbid pay my utility bill. 2. I have to deal with people all day. Some days I just don't want to deal with people. There's a performance aspect to a job that is heavily related to customer service. 3. I barely know anything about what I'm doing. I've only been training there for 2 months and am just now getting competant at the simplest tasks. I still don't know random things like where they keep the broom or where they store the rubbing alcohol. 4. They keep changing up the "system". First we were using tiny tablet PCs in the exam rooms to take notes and keep charts on the computer. Then that was all wrong so we did some patients with paper charts and some with computer charts. Then that didn't work so we're going all back to paper charts now. I'm confused. This is all happening so quickly. 5. Something about that place doesn't sit well with me. I can't put my finger on it. 6. I'm learning a very specialized set of skills and am NOT learning a lot of stuff on the computer, which worries me and makes me less marketable for future jobs in other areas. I would basically be painting myself into a corner in terms of marketability in the job market. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Think think think. I don't want to make any quick decisions. If I stay with the job until december I can do temp tax work again at the accounting firm. They love me there. I have a lot of options. Also, my boyfriend is considering taking a job in costa rica around november/december and I could tag along. That plan is the least concrete and most nebulous because he still hasn't decided on whether he even WANTS to work in Costa Rica for a year. I would be able to get work there, but nothing that would build my skills -- all menial labor types of work. Honest, hard working stuff like landscaping, but nothing that would make me more employable once I return.
quankanne
Something about that place doesn't sit well with me. I can't put my finger on it. there's no law saying that you must stick with something that doesn't sit right … sometimes you know before you know that something's wrong. On top of which, the work you do shouldn't cause mental or physical grief, nor should you be expected to pay the consequences of such just because someone else expects it of you. costa rica sounds cool, if for the travel experience alone! The physical labor might also be a balm for what's illing you, too.
Mary3
1. I get paid well to be trained ~~~Good $$ 2. There is potential for advancement and lots to learn and there is potential to have a much higher salary if I stick with it. Another good thing to advance and get paid more $. I interact with a lot of people on a daily basis 4. The people I work with are all very nice A Very BIG Plus ! 5. If I stick with the job for a year I'll be able to go part-time and go back to school. If your dream is going back to school then this is a great opportunity 6. If I stick with the job for longer, a few years, I get a discount on LASIK or PRK eye surgery to correct my myopia. Considering the cost of Lasik and many insurances don't pick this up.... Cons: 1. I only get a half hour lunch. Just enough time to cram food into my mouth, but not enough time to run an errand or God Forbid pay my utility bill. Can you bag your lunch. ? I know this doesn't help much with Utilities. 2. I have to deal with people all day. Some days I just don't want to deal with people. There's a performance aspect to a job that is heavily related to customer service. Maybe you can change your mindset on the people dealing skills...Might be worth it to take Public Speaking Classes or Classes dealing with relating to CC. I barely know anything about what I'm doing. I've only been training there for 2 months and am just now getting competant at the simplest tasks. I still don't know random things like where they keep the broom or where they store the rubbing alcohol. This too can be accomplished if they give you a tour before you start the work day. A new job always seems overwhelming and takes alot of time to adjust..5. Something about that place doesn't sit well with me. I can't put my finger on it. Only you can figure out what this might be.... 6. I'm learning a very specialized set of skills and am NOT learning a lot of stuff on the computer, which worries me and makes me less marketable for future jobs in other areas. I would basically be painting myself into a corner in terms of marketability in the job market. Thats the one thing here you might be able to suggest to them to get more computer skills.. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You always want to weigh the positive with the negative ...You have more positive aspects : $ More money , Good People, Chance for Advancement, You are very new . I would give it 6 months if you can stand it
justice
You have to do what is best for you and your health. I suffer from migraines too, so I do know what you are going through. Stress can bring on migraines, so can many other things. Are you getting enough quality sleep? Sometimes, that can cause mine. Whatever you decide to do, listen to your body and what it is telling you, it's usually right on target.
