julia pearson
I've had a fantastic year. I was fortunate enough to work somewhere where I really felt like everyone was family! Fantastic commute and great, supportive work environment. Felt like I fit in perfectly. The sad thing is, I took the job with full knowledge that the contract would end in June. Didn't think I'd get so attached! It was the best fit so far. My co-workers were sorry to see me go and many tears were shed that day. Had a terrific party for me too. Everyone attended right up to the admin! What happened? Well, seniority bumped me down the road. I'm struggling with a system that seems to create these unhappy feelings between the members. She is only covering her own butt and isn't really that committed to the job! I'm the one who loves the place and I'm the one who has to go. Who knows what September has in store for me! Lizzie60
that sucks... Maybe the admin. people can keep an eye opened for you... that's how my daughter got a few jobs (especially in the last 2 years). I know you'll find another job... visualize...visualize... visualize...
Author julia pearson
Hey Lizzie! Good morning!! I've never lacked for work. The phone always rings and frequently I get long postings. Its just I miss this place so very much. Took a drive up there this weekend and kept running into people who knew me on the main street. They all asked "are you coming back in September?" Even the local police officer said he would arrange for a caged grizzly to be left at her back door so she'd move out of town! Joking of course... Anyway, thanks for the support. I know I'll find work. I've been known to fall in love with my place of employment before. Could you work one of your magic spells on this one? (Hey, is it me or do you change your avatar frequently?)
PoshPrincess
Julia, poor you! Sometimes it is so hard to find a job that you love, where everything is exactly how you want it, so this must be really tough on you having to leave, even though you did know the day would come! I am sure if anything else comes up within the company you will be in with a chance of going back as it sounds like you were very popular! If not, maybe September will bring something better for you. After all, this job must've made you feel very confident about your skills and the way you get on with other people so I reckon the world's your oyster. Hang in there! Author julia pearson
Thank you Posh! The unfortunate thing is that decisions are based solely on seniority in my line of work. I'm a secretary and have over 25 years experience. Because of the union I belong with someone in other areas, should they have more seniority and if they apply, will be selected for the job. It isn't a "selection" based on ability at all! I've known custodial people who have moved onto into clerical and so on. Its how many years you've been there is all. Seems to me they don't look at a person's work record at all. Hey, the upside - I'll maintain my contacts through last year and have made some very solid friendships. I'm keeping my eyes open for anything that comes up in the area. Even if I'm not working at the same place I could land a job in the same town! Yeah, its a bummer...
