Just turned 25 and I seem to be gaining weight!!

Recommended Posts

So I hit the mark where most women start to gain weight. :(

I am 5'4" 140Ilbs which is heavy for my height, borderline overweight. Exepct that I am a size 6/8, Medium, with a ghetto booty.

So lately it looks like I have been putting on weight. I way more then I want to, I would love to be 125. Yet, loosing 15 Ilbs seems like a lot. I would like to be a size four and toned.

I currently exercise, some. I figure skate 1-2 a week and will be bumbing that to 2-3 times a week. I just got an exercise ball, weights and resistance bands. I have been using them a little (not as much as I should, once a week) for about three weeks and it looks like I have gained weight since. I have rolls in my stomach now - when I bend over - but it is fat not skin and I have had bra rolls for about two years, but I have never done back exercises until recently.

So I am starting to feel very self consious. My H and I are going on vacation at the end of October and I want to get in shape for the trip.

I wonder if I look bigger because I am about to start my period (in a week) even my legs look thicker.

I just subscribed to Shape and Womens Health to help get motivated but I don't know what else to do.

I know I need to drink more water (which is all I drink anyways, just not enough) and I will start taking fiber pills as well. I just feel very down about my body right now.

I have been doing a Yoga/Pilaties Excercise Ball video work out, but I never break a sweat when I do it, do I feel like it is not working. Is that normal, I have never done Yoga or Pilaties?

Anyone have any advice on how to stay motivated?

Thanks for listening to me whine.

Don't have any advice on how to stay motivated, but keep in mind that many times a PMS symptom is a light form of body dysmorphic disorder, where you just feel like you look ugly and fat, and after your P, you feel normal again. Happens to me and many of my GF's :)

Yes, I get very moody around that time. I get very low and insecure. So it could be it, but there is no denying I have bra rolls and I hate them. Thanks for the reply. I am seeing my Dr. today for unrelated issues so I am going to see if they can test me for my body fat percentage.

Staying motivated is the most difficult part IMO.

As you get older, the slower your metabolism will become.

Try counting your carbs for starters. I know someone who does that and they have been losing weight.

I saw everything in your post except cutting calories.

I am not saying starve yourself, but the quickest way to lose weight is simply consume less calories.

Do what I did. Go through what you eat and cut out the high calorie stuff. (I had candy bars, donuts, and soda in mine!). Then figure out what you like that you can live with replacing them with that tastes good. (I do hummus, whole wheat bagels, apples, mango, banana chips, diet drinks, and STILL a candy bar or two, and chorizos)

I also eat a large breakfast, small lunch, and tiny dinner.

Just a thought.

I started gaining weight when I hit 27. I'm coming up on my 28th b-day and I'm at my all time heaviest weight. Yuck.

I know I have to cut some calories but I do not want to cut too much. They say if you cut too much it slows down your metabolism. Instead of cutting calories I am substituting fatty foods like a 250 calorie candy bar with healthy calories like an apple and yogurt. If I exercise I get very very hungry, so I know I need to keep eating the same amount of calories which is between 1600 and 1800 a day.

They say the more muscle you have the higher your metabolism so I want to work on that instead of cutting calories. I also need to eat more fiber and drink lot's of water.

I saw a Dr yesterday and they did the BMI test and mine is 25.5, it should be between 20 and 25. When I asked my Dr about it she said looking at me I am fine.

When I went into the ER in June the Dr came in and asked me if I lost weight and I said no, I have gained a little and he said in the computer system they show me as being obese and he said I am definitly not obese.

I would just like to be 15 lbs lighter that's all. But I do have a lot of muscle I have a very athletic build which is worsened by my figure skating. My bottom half is bulky looking, but almost all muscle.

I got a Pedometer yesterday so I am going to watch what I eat this week and see how many steps I do on average for the next few days then start jogging.

I am going to start a journal and take it from there. I would be so happy toning my back and getting rid of about an inch on my waist.

Thanks for all the replies!!! I am going to try them all out.
