Elusive867
So after 6 months of being at a job my heart has not and was never in I'm starting to interview again. Long story my first job outta college was in a toxic env't (gossiping, sabatoge) you get it which is why I got out. So I got offered this position and thought it was a godsend at first. Not bc of my title (i'm an assistant) but the company is great. So fast forward the first week in I realized what had I done..I hated it but spoke to my boss who talked me into staying. So I go back and realize I do not fit in at all. My coworkers are highly pretenious, are into classical music, museums, kinda geeky, cliquey..all fine but me well I'm not. Even though I figured hey let me make an effort to get to know them even though I sit no where near them and they all sit right by one another. So my cubicle visits were either convos pulling teeth bc well I have nothing in common with them or them kinda ignoring me. I made an effort to go to some social functions but once again it was just an akward situaion. My friends etc have said well I'm me I can't change that. I'm not anti social and never had a problem making friends but with this group..well it was jsut wierd. Then there's my lack of work. Some days I'm busy but others I have an hrs worth of work if that then sit there pretending to do work all day long. I tried the whole asking for extra assignment thing for about 2 months then it got old. My boss looked annoyed and is totally interested in only himself and his work. He sits by and basciall ignores me usually (though I'm his assistant..what a joke), I get a hello or if he needs something he speaks to me. When I go in his office or say his name he'll stare at his computer screen while he talks to me..yea I'm not important enough to get his full attention. I also thinks he's sexist since everything is the guys and all the other high ups but me and the other women I don't matter lol. I have "the guys" constantly trying to look at my computer screen to see what I'm doing or hanging over me to watch me to do something they asked for. I'm the furtherst thing from stupid. I'm in grad school getting my masters but the field I'm in now I have 0 intereset in and hearing this crap talked about all day long I'd like to stab myself. Back to my male coworkers who speak to me only when they want something and one said to me oh I 'd say something but I have nothing to say..I only really talk to people who sit by me. Honestly I'm done being nice to anyone and of course my boss thinks I'm shy. Thing is I'm the furthest thing from it but when you don't fit in some place what are you to do. So I'm in full gear now sending out resumes. I have an interview next week (in a field I think I'll like). Of course when other coworkers have left mostly after a year they have drinks etc for them. Well for me I feel like when I leave it will be really akward. Maybe some of them see I'm not as fond of them either. I got a 6 month review where my boss said I'm doing excellent blah blah and asked me if I was gonna stay till I graduated (of course I said yea) was I gonna say I hate this job and you as a manager suck. I know my boss above him can be a real jerk when people leave and when another coworker left after a year and half he was pissed bc he suppsoedly thinks eveyone should give a 2 year agreement..this was never in writing. So he went around the office bad mouthing him..really normal and talking about how he never liked him. So I'm expecting 2 weeks of hell and the cold sholder when I do leave bc can you imagaine what they will think after only 6 months lol. Or maybe they are giving me nothing to do hoping I will leave on my own bc if they fire me (I'm obviously not needed)they will be paying unemployment. What do u guys think? Heavenly55
I think you would be crazy if you stayed. I take it your a girl and you must be pretty which is why your coworkers might be jealous of you. It's sad that in corporate America most managers can't manager if their life depended on it. I think they are also crazy if they don't see that you are going to leave real soon. You don't owe them anything. If you want to leave why waste their time but look at this way you got paid 6 months to do nothing:D
jerbear
2 year agreement? that is a little long. You are doing a favor to both your employer and yourself. There is no value when both the company and employee are not seeing eye to eye or even eye to nose. Within the trial period, the company can release you without cause so laying off or even firing you is not a problem. good luck with your grad school and next steps.
