Guess I'll put this here....

Recommended Posts

Cause I don't really know where else to put it. I consider it an issue of well being.

I've been having migraines since the late 80's, only they weren't as bad then nor did they last as long.

I've gone to the doctor about them several times and none of the migraine meds that he's given me have worked very well or they have side effects that are in some ways worse than the migraines. I've tried everything.

Last week, I woke up with a bad migraine that lasted for three days and three nights! It hurt so bad that I was literally praying for death.

I have never experienced one that was this painful or one that has lasted that long. It was so awful that I was throwing up and ended up calling a friend to take me to the emergency room and they gave me a strong shot to get rid of the pain and nausea. It also made me sleep for 12 hours.

How do you all deal with these if anyone here has migraines?

If I start to get them while I'm awake, I can usually knock them out with ibuprofen at the onset, on the other hand if they happen in my sleep, there is little I can do except take the over the counter stuff and suffer in a very dark room until they go away. I've tried steam baths, aromatherapy, and just about everything conventional and nonconventional that I can get my hands on. I think I may need to see a different doctor, maybe one who specializes in migraines.

I've not been under alot of stress here lately, I've had my eyes checked and they are fine, there just seems to be no apparent reason for these monsters. I'm at my rope's end. The bad ones usually come on when I'm sleeping. There isn't anything I can do to prevent them at all.

And that is happening more often lately. MRI's are clear, exrays are clear, there is no apparent reason. I need some thoughts here on what I can do for this, and I do plan on seeking a specialist. But in the meantime, what if one happens again? Isn't there anything I can do to help it or stop it from getting so bad that I just want to die?

I use Zomig for my migraines when they get real bad. I also use liquid gels (advil made for migraines and that works well too), I drink ALOT of water, stay away from sugars, caffeine...

Talk to your Dr about B12 shots. They work for me. Not only for the migraines, but anxiety is much less, I have more energy too.

Definately see a Neurologist.

Sorry to hear you're going through this though, migraines SUCK!

I have a friend who had bad migraines and eventually found out they were linked to an undiagnosed thyroid problem. I think it's a good idea to see a specialist. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. I have maybe one cup of coffee in the morning and I do stay away from sugars. I literally deluge myself with ice water at all times of the day. Advil for migraines feels like I'm taking a dose of nothing, it has no effect on the migraines and I'm at my wit's end. Zomig made me break out in a horrible rash so no relief there either, yeah I'm going to make an appointment with a migraine specialist I've recently heard of.

Thanks, yeah I'm going to have it all checked out and soon, hopefully, before the next one hits. I hate these things.

Oh Justice, sorry to hear about them, I have had bad migraines before, they really do suck.

I have tried ergotamine (thats the active ingredient- not sure what the brand name is where you are) with some success, I think you can only get it on prescription.

I have also tried beta blockers to reduce the blood pressure, which helps too.

Now the only time I get headache pain is due to terrible tension headaches from my dodgy shoulder, which is kept under control with massage.

I don't really believe in osteopathy as a science, although when i was at your stage i tried everything, and something about the osteopath really seemed to help.

Have you tried acupuncture? its great for pain, i have tried that too with a reasonable amount of success.

*cringes* I'm so afraid of needles!! So no that isn't something I've tried. but if they keep on getting like this I'm going to have to do something. I've been having 60 minute massages three times a week and they feel wonderful. Those headaches though, they have been cropping up in the middle of the night or when I wake up and it seems like there is nothing I can do except suffer and wait them out. I've made an appointment and hopefully this migraine expert will be able to help me get rid of or manage these monsters. Thanks so much for the advice.

Acupuncture is nothing like having an injection. The needles are soo fine and don't hurt at all.

At worst, if you flick your fingernail against the back of your hand, thats what it feels like.
