I'm sure the "tiny lungs" thing had to have come from the "flat chest" thread. Kind of gave myself away there, didn't I?

A portion of your own anatomy with which I'm certain you are intimately involved since your head is obviously firmly planted in an aperture very nearby, AKA, rectal-cranial inversion. NEVER is a strong word.. It is already almost a nationwide ban.. by my count only 18 states are left...or there abouts that haven't banned some type of smoking Over 50% of Americans are covered by a smoke-free ordinance of some degree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smoking_bans_in_the_United_States
melodymatters
Ok, I'll try ONE MORE TIME. The point is NOT whether smoking is good for you, nor is anyone saying we should go back to smoking in airplanes, restaurants and daycares. The POINT, is that the government is ordering bar owners to ban a LEGAL product in THEIR own buildings/businesses. Luvmy : Would you agree with letting the bar owner ( liquid refreshments only) decide whether to allow smoking and then post a sign alerting people as to the status ? Then YOU could pick the smoke free bars, others could pick one where it is allowed, and MOST IMPORTANTLY you are not trampling on private ownership rights.
redfathom
I will have to ask my H, but you can get a DUI even if your BAC is less then .08, even if you are over 21 in CA. The law is broken into two sections A) which says you can't drive a vechile if you are under the influence of alcohol and/ or drugs and B) you can't drive a vechile if your BAC is over .08. We had a friend get a DUI and his BAC was .05. Since some people handle the effects of alcohol differently, where are someone who has .05 is a threat and someone who is .09 is not is why the code is broken down by section. I mean if someone killed someone while driving drunk bu there BAC was .06 would it we wise to not charge them with a DUI in addition to the other charges. I had a 15 year old friend in highschool die from drinking and driving and it's just not something people should excuse, no matter what the BAC. P.S. I did not read all the posts so if this has been said, sorry! I also apologize for bringing it back to a serious note, continue with your fun.

Maybe. But so were all the smokers for years puffing away, blowing smoke in everyone's faces. I've even had people sitting at my own table in a restaurant light up while others were still eating! Like I said before, it's our turn now. If all the bars are smoke free, it will be an even playing field anyway for the owners. And yes - it's coming. Whether anyone likes it or not. Art_Critic
The POINT, is that the government is ordering bar owners to ban a LEGAL product in THEIR own buildings/businesses. For the safety of the other patrons that visit his place.. The state government.. voted and put into effect by the people thru the voting process. The government also tells that same bar owner how many people are allowed to even be in his establishment ( fire codes ).. they tell him when he can and cannot sell alcohol.. (times and whether ot not he can do it without a license ).. Personal liberty is fine as long as you are not stepping on my personal liberties.. You are claiming personal liberty..Well..in that case.. I have a personal liberty to not have my life shortened by you thru your smoke..I cannot chose which particles of air you have or haven't contaminated for me to breath.. .. personally

luvmy2ns
My point exactly. I love looking down on all the simpletons in their clouds of toxins. And the air - it's so clean and fresh up here! Now I'll just slide off this big monster and hit a bar where, again, the air - it's so clean and fresh!
Art_Critic
I think part of the problem in the past has come from the smokers.. that is why the laws.. I have seen smokers blow their smoke in the face of someone after they asked them to put their cigarette out while eating at a restaurant. I have seen the same smoker get all pissy and say they have a right to smoke there.. The problem is that the people went to the legislature because smokers were not being anything but rude about it.. If smokers had respected nonsmokers during those times when they were asked to not smoke then the bans would most likely had a much tougher time passing..

melodymatters
I do understand where you are coming from Art. I think I'm going to get off this thread. It's not the smoking issue thats bothering me. It's what this " Land of the Free" is becoming. I'll paraphrase ben franklin - " he who would trade liberty for safety, deserves neither"
Art_Critic
It's what this " Land of the Free" is becoming. Honestly.. The phrase " Land of The Free" hasn't meant free for a very long time.. We cannot even have control over our own bodies.. ( or property as it were ).. The government even owns that..So I also understand where you are coming from as well.
