burning 4 revenge
a4a beat me to it. I think if people believe in God, fine, if they don't fine. I don't think its right for others to try to get others to see things THEIR way, whatever way that might be. That would be an exhausting thing to do I would think. :)

Why not? That's what books are all about aren't they? To get other people to understand your perspective?

Why not just take the high road and who cares what Joe believes
I'm obligated to defend my faith especially when it's directed to me personally.
Now pull my finger!
You know you and I couldn't be in the same room together, we'd either kill each other instantly, or have wild monkey sex and go to hell together.......
Oh and Moose likely I will always be your biggest challenge.....
You've already proven this......;)

Yes I would kill you...... no way you could take it! :lmao:

We could put an ambulance on standby for you.

Keep in mind I won't be joining you in hell afterward though...... I can't cuz I don't believe in it.

Death by Wild Monkey Sex

is that anything like Death By Chocolate, but just involving monkeys? Where does the Donkey Lady fit in?

We could put an ambulance on standby for you.

you might want to just invest in a portable defibrilator – be much cheaper (and less time-consuming) than having having to convince EMS to come out for a bunch of monkeys that stopped breathing :laugh:

  • 3 weeks later...

I would love to see some studies done in colleges and towns across the US polling to see how many believe in God. It would be interesting to see what things look like for the college-educated vs. non and also arranged by age and geography.

Kind of a "compare 25-year old college educated vs non from east to west coast, then compare that to 50 year old college educated and non in the same locale."

I wonder what you'd come up with? Does anyone know if any reliable studies have been done this way?

It would also be interesting to see why people believe in God- personal experience, upbringing, etc.

re:

Oopath: " Atheists are far from barbaric. We may not agree with religion...."

Ok -let's break it down: there are some barbaric, hateful creatures on *both* sides -not very good representatives of either stance.

If stating you are atheist or have adopted the teachings of some religion is truly not about hatred, pride, ego, and hiding behind "moralistic" standards, or taking the time to become educated in the fields of science and physics with the primary purpose in mind to fire back at other's religious beliefs and ridicule them, or taking some kind of religious vow just to give you some kind of "cover" or protection you see it offering so you can carry out all this -then you should behave in a way that most reflects what you are preaching -or whatever has been the source of your enlightenment.

That goes for either side.

Yes -there are loud, arrogant, overly zealous -and ignorant- religious people -but there are *also* pompous, self-absorbed, very rude atheists who live to ridicule their most likely opposition, the religious fanatic.

Neither one of these represents their belief or non-belief well.

And the object of each seems to be jumping into the frey of the debate and stirring up great masses of confusion -and bitterness- that does nothing to draw the two sides to a truce or to create an atmosphere where anyone can understand the position of the other -and respect it.

It doesn't become a respectable debate between the two sides -it becomes a pig wallow.

And it renders nothing you say you know worthy of listening to.

It defeats your effort in accumulating and constructing what you believe.

That -my dear friends of LS- is a "fool".

-Rio
