BlueSoul
I've been wondering, whenever you buy a game with the evil's name (for example of a game, devil may cry), does that mean that you'll be possessed or something?
underpants
You rang? Short answer....NO.
LucreziaBorgia
What on earth have you been reading that would give you that impression? Of course its not the games with 'Devil' in the title that doom you to the sooty gates. That would be your Xbox 360 itself, since Microsoft is - as everyone knows, THE devil. Those red rings you mentioned in an earlier thread? Those are the devil's signal that you are, in fact going to hell. Seriously though, what would make you think such a thing about video games? Author BlueSoul
I'm pretty serious, you know. I kind of develop an interest in the game I just mentioned and asked myself whether I should get it one day or not, because it has the word devil and that I'm a christian myself. LucreziaBorgia
I dunno, that's up to you really. Beliefs like that are purely subjective. If you think that playing games with the word 'devil' in the title are evil and will cause the devil to come possess you then you probably ought to steer away from them. G_d forbid you play a game and get some sort of psychosomatic possession going on. The mind is capable of playing some nasty tricks on you, and while a devil possession may not be something you ever have to worry about from a video game - your mind is quite capable of tricking you into thinking otherwise at times. Author BlueSoul
Okay, but what I'm asking for is for other christians' opinions about it.
IpAncA
Uh....huh? Sorry but you don't have to be a Christian to answer this. No your not going to be possessed by the game. But I guess if your religion looks down on that stuff then don't play the game.
sb129
Simple answer= No. Slightly more complicated answer= if it worries you that much, don't play the game. Is the game really worth so much grief and uncertainty?
Author BlueSoul
It's not just possession that you will become when you buy the game, but a sin(?). So, it's not a big deal that a game's name has the word devil, right (even to christians?)?
IpAncA
A sin to what? Play the game because the word Devil is in it? I do know that some people do avoid games with that kind of stuff but I don't see it as evil itself.
Kasan
I've been wondering, whenever you buy a game with the evil's name (for example of a game, devil may cry), does that mean that you'll be possessed or something? I think that you are getting this mixed up with the Ouija board. You don't want to mess with it.

XxBacktoBlackXx
I think that it depends on your personal beliefs. I've never heard of any religion saying this is wrong, though...

gman0hsev
You know I'm Christian too and I don't don a rosary, holy water, and a wafer every time i play the DMC series(Devil May cry). Honestly the game is about killing demons(thats y the devil is crying) so I don't see the Drama.... Can I just ask where are you from? And where you got the Idea that anything with the word devil can posses you?

My mum always brag about how wrong things are (for example listening to heavy metal, having emo hair style, watching porn, etc). Obviously those things are wrong, but I wasn't sure if devil may cry was wrong too, because it has the word devil and it's about demons.
gman0hsev
........ you know I can see the point with the heavy metal and porn but emo hair styles? No offense but I'm gonna have to put that in the biased/crazy category..... Cause if having a bad style is wrong im so screwed..... But no something does not automatically become wrong because it has the word devil or is about demons.

A lot of asians have hair styles similiar to emo. Anyways, I asked my parents yesterday if playing devil may cry was bad because it has devil in it, they said that it's not a big deal, just because the game's name has devil in it. It kind of reminds me, whether bringing yugioh cards to church was bad or not. One of the church members said that they don't mind.
gman0hsev
lol I'm not azn I just really enjoy mangas lol. And you should really play DMC its a really good series(although its rated M so you may want to prep yourself for language and violence).
andysw
What about the game's actual content? The gameplay/cutscenes could be so devilish and graphic that it could give a metaphoric impression that the cd has evil spirits from within. What about resident evil? I've been so interested in these kinds of games that I don't know, as a christian, if buying one would betray my faith community.
Moai
Throw out your Bible, then. The Bible has zombies, Satan, demons, sexual perversion, and all sorts of evil stuff in it. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but there are no zombies or demons or anything like that, they are just stories in video games (and ancient books) that have no basis in reality. You don't think that Super Mario Brothers represents actual plumbers, do you? Do you think by playing that game you will feel compelled to actually become a plumber? There's nothing wrong with metal, either, if that is what you are into. Does your mom hate friar hairstyles? What about the Beatles' haricuts? Or Screwdriver? What century is this, by the way? You guys don't vote, do you?

gman0hsev
k im a Christian and I do not believe that any video game, movie, or tv show holds evil spirits in them(well except for the ring of course). I have played all those games and let me assure you that in them you are combating evil and the only thing that has happened to me is that I have occasionally uttered eww thats gross.
