goodfriendeva
i have been working out and eating a lot healthier for the past few months. now im noticing some hair loss.. any supplements and/or advice for me:) i was diagnosed hypothyroidism 6years ago and started taking the generic synthroid(think thats the name) anyways lost my insurance when i was 18.. but after i took synthriod i noticed my thick shiny hair becoming dull and straw like.. i got my levels checked again (2007 with a new dr) and everything came back normal.. so he didnt prescribe any meds for my thyroid. now that ive added working out and a healthy diet its coming out faster.. if that make sense? ill take a shower and in the drain is a clump.. run my fingers through my hair more comes out.. i wake up in the morning and i have strands there.. it isnt noticable yet to others since theyve gotten use to my now thin hair. if i was to use rogain (womans formula) is only for the top of the head.. i have all over hair loss.. would using the mens formula be harmful to me any way? k that was a lot.. thanks in advance to everyone who replies;)
Tony T
See a dermatologist as soon as possible. Rogain is OK but there are so many factors that contribute to hair loss. Stress is one of them, poor diet is another. Take a Biotin supplement to help your hair and nails. Exercise, eat well. Nothing you can do about the genetic factor.
knaveman
Or...you could just be losing your hair. I started losing mine in high school, how fun was that. Just do me a favor and never be pathetic about it, don't ever try to cover it up it just makes you look worse. If it is a condition, then see a doctor and I hope (for all us men) that you can fix it. Otherwise just own it and take it like a man.
Darkzen
You starting to work out might also have something to do with it. I believe that a certain type of testosterone causes hair loss in men. Maybe since working out, those levels might have increased and speed up your genetic hair loss. Just an idea, not saying this is fact, just something I thought I heard before.

Art_Critic
Stress can also cause hair loss.. remove the stress and the hair grows back... It has happened to me before when I went thru a divorce.. a good bit of thinning.. it took about 3 months to grow all back after the stress was over with..

Drs. didn't give me any answers...including a dermatologist. My last thyroid level was on the very border of normal (I take levothyroxin) but when I ask about it being so low, they just brush me off saying it's within range. I have no clue what to do...none of them seem to listen or care when you talk about hair. It's just an accessory to them. As long as you have SOME (hair), that's all they seem to be concerned with. I take Biotin and have tried Nioxin as well. I quit the Nioxin. I don't think it did much good and the stuff stinks. I've colored my hair and so I can't really tell if I'm continuing to lose mine or it's breaking due to the color at this point. Just cut a bunch of it off due to the breakage from the bleach though. Let me know if you find anything out about yours. Feel free to PM me.
TinaW
Have you had your thyroid checked since your hair started falling out? The fact that you are working out, changed your diet and had thyroid issues, my guess is your thryoid /thyroid med may be a bit off. Good luck
pinochleprincess
I've been in the same boat! TWICE! Once was thyroid problems...I got put on synthroid and that stopped the problem....obviously that didn't work for you The second time I lost weight. I lost it fast and my hair started falling out like you described. It eventually started growing back. Right now I've got a lot of hair that sticks out like broken hair because it had fallen out...I hate it but it shouldn't take much longer. I'd see a doc and have your thyroid rechecked and make sure your aren't losing weight too fast...that can be damaging to your liver as well (spoken from experience). Good luck! beachlover
You really should have your doctor check your thyroid levels again, it is possible that they got the level back to normal but didn't get it high enough. How long did you take synthroid? If you weren't on it very long the drier hair could be due to your body adjusting to the med and would have resolved itself after you had been on the med for a few months. If you don't trust your doctor talk to some friends and get a recommendation for a new doc and see if they are accepting new patients.
kobegirl
i think you should first ask your doctor about it and if he says that it has nothing to do with your health situation and diet then Rogain is an option . i read in a women's magazine that women should use the mens formula instead of the women's formula. I read that the only difference between the mens and women's formula is that the mens formula is a higher percentage of the ingredients that grow hair. I dont know why they made a women's formula probobly because women may become pregnant so they figure be safe ? who knows.
