Hazel7777
I have just been terminated from my admin assist position of 10 years due to being on disability longer than the company policy allows. The company no longer wanted to hold my position and by law they do not have to. My question is since i have been basically out of the job market for ten years - how do i get motivated in seeking employment and do i tell a prospective employer that i was on disability and let go. I prefer not to. i will be off disability soon and wanted to know how to go about seeking employment. I am in my 40's. Thanks

Thanks i wouldn't tell unless they ask. then you will have too. they may call your former employer and get the whole story. might as well fess up. i am in the same boat right now. unemployeed due to lack of business and hard times at the company. so far, no one has asked. you will get motivated when you can't do the things that you used to be able to do with the income. are you married?? kids?? spouse work?? i'm going to be sexist here and guess that you are female (admin asst), right?? do you need to work?? i'd look for what you want to do and what you have been doing and see what you like the best. Good luck!
Liquinn
I'm only 15, so I have yet to get into your shoes. I'd get a new job, and find someone else who is willing to take you.
curiousnycgirl
I would get in touch with some recruiters who would provide you 2 benefits. Firstly they should have vacancies they are looking to fill and 2 they can advise you how to handle the situation. Frankly after 10 years of service to a company I would be horrified if an employer terminated someone for extending a medical leave! So as a hiring manager, assuming all other things to be equal, in my eyes that would work in your favor!
