We'd talked about it and we've been dating so long that it doesn't really change how we're living except now everyone is asking about a wedding date. He asked me what I'd like in the ring but he wanted to pick it out himself so it would be a little bit of a surprise. He already knew I like silvery things and the other thing I asked for was that it be close to my finger so it wouldn't get in the way. I don't normally wear rings, and I'm pretty active and a bit clumsy so I don't want to have it tugging at my finger all the time. The ring is really classic and cute... from the top. It is a 4-prong with a narrow band but the top of the diamond is more than double the diamond's height from my finger. I tried to get used to it, but by last evening I knew it was going to be a problem. I brought it up as nicely as I could, and he told me the diamond itself was the engagement item. I should feel free to try to find a band I like more, but he wasn't able to find a short one at any store. I know part of the reason is so a wedding band can fit next to the stone, and another reason may be so the diamond will look nicer with light shining all the way through it, but this seems excessively high. I really don't care how pretty it is if it's in the way for the rest of my life. Are there any band styles where the point of the diamond is close to the top of the finger instead of being raised? Or if I go out looking should I just expect a bunch of disappointment? Link to post Share on other sites

I know what you mean- I am not engaged myself, but a friend has a ring that is very high, and I think that I would struggle with something that high. Are you sure you won't just get used to it though? You shouldbe able to get the diamond reset, people do it all the time. Link to post Share on other sites

Kalamazoo Posted September 29, 2007 Share Posted September 29, 2007 I had the same problem when I was picking out rings, I didn't like the height on the majority of them and preferred something that sat a little closer to my finger.
